The famous Na Pali Coastline. This beautiful wonder was formed throughout the course of thousands of eruptions during the building of Hawaii’s garden island, Kauai. Approximately 10 million years ago as the Pacific tectonic plate was shifting North West, the well known “Hawaiian hotspot” AKA the mantle plume pushed molten magma through the Earths crust onto the sea floor. Over the course of 5,000 years, Kauai’s active volcanism subsided and left us with the stunning island we have today. Hollywood has taken advantage of this islands sheer beauty for several well known movies. A few of these movies include Jurassic Park, Six Days and Seven Nights, Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as Avatar and King Kong. Although this island is well celebrated for its beauty and fame, this is a very special place to the Hawaiian community and truly held sacred to them. Generations of rituals, battles, and memories are truly what make this island such a special place.
