And just like that, two weeks in the Pantanal flew by.
Every year I wait with so much excitement for these trips. They are always one of the highlights of my season, and I am at my happiest when I’m in the field with the jaguars. If you know me, you know the passion I have for these cats, but also the passion I have for showing them to people who have always dreamt of seeing one. This year I was lucky to once again take two wonderful groups of guests, all of whom are now good friends, and I had a great time with them in this incredible place.
The Pantanal is truly a paradise, full of life, full of opportunities, and full of amazing people doing amazing conservation work. It is often tainted by a few specific crowded sightings, but the Pantanal is so much more than that. If you get the opportunity to work with an amazing local team, as I’ve had the true privilege of doing for the past few years, your experience here is comparable to none.
This year we had over 80 sightings between both groups and got to see 34 individuals, some of them old friends, some of them new faces I had never seen before. We had so many private, intimate sightings. We saw so many cubs, several hunt attempts, interactions between jaguars, including the famous and adorable coalition of Makala and Pantaneiro, an extremely rare glimpse of a jaguarundi on the riverbank and so much more. I have no words for this beautiful destination. This year was one for the books, and I have so much to go through.
