These are three of my favourite images I’ve taken over the years - all for different reasons! 📸
1. Salish Serpent 🐍
This photo of a western terrestrial garter snake foraging in an intertidal zone was the result of a combination of luck, investing in a lens that would give me my desired composition ( wide angle macro), learning the snake’s behaviour/patterns and patience! I can’t wait to go back and take more photos of them next year.
2. Giants of Amboseli 🐘
This photo never gets old from me and sums up my 2019 trip to East Africa perfectly! Four weeks prior to taking this photo I paraglided off the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, which you can see in the background behind the elephant. The elephant is significant because I was in this part of Kenya making my short conservation documentary “Mutinda”. People travel from far and wide to see elephants at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro and I was lucky enough to capture both in the same frame. Ten minutes after I made this shot, the clouds enveloped the mountain and we didn’t see it for the rest of the day.
3. 🐆 I have yet to settle on a title for this photo but it’s one of my favourites of 2023 because of how fleeting the moment was. We were driving down a dirt road just after sunrise in Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, and this male leopard (the first one I’ve EVER seen) starts walking out of the jungle. I literally had 10 seconds to pick up my camera, adjust my settings and create a composition before he crossed the road and disappeared into the forest. My heart was RACING!Moral of the story - get to know your camera until everything is muscle memory!!
