Wah Fu Estate is a public housing development 1960s for low-income families, situated between Aberdeen and Pok Fu Lam. Despite its target residents, Wah Fu was actually considered relatively luxurious, with many celebrities living there. Housing around 50,000 residents, Wah Fu Estate is one of the prominent examples of a public housing estate built with a township concept. It includes a supermarket, many convenience stores, bank, school and even a public library, the second one after City Hall back then. Also the residents can enjoy the sea view and the fresh air, being located on the shoreline of Pok Fu Lam. 🏬

Thanks to I had the chance to do a Tour of Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau, discovering some hidden gems such as this old public estate! Learning every day with her page and content, I truly recommend joining for a tour to learn more about Hong Kong! 🇭🇰

Did you know the hidden meaning behind Wan Chai District? Wan Chai literally means "a cove" in Cantonese from the shape of its coastal line, however, due to drastic city development and continual land reclamation, the area is no longer a cove. Back then, it was one of the fours rings 四環 known by the locals.
Let's hope this neon sign can survive a little bit more! Capturing it before it's gone!

Only a few building like this one in Hong Kong are left. Like others large neons signs, it will be soon demolished. 176–178 Shanghai Street is one of those shops known locally as tong lau (唐樓) — literally meaning ‘Chinese building’ — they were mainly occupied by Chinese merchants back in the day. A large sign on top of the building bears the numerals ‘1940’, its year of construction, though the four-storey tenement building has since been refurbished. It currently houses a traditional pawn shop, which in itself is a bit of a sunset industry. Both sides of the building feature a neon sign in the traditional figure of pawn shops: a stylised, upside-down bat clutching a coin. The characters for the bat’s Chinese name (蝠) and good fortune (福), and ‘to turn around’ (倒) and ‘to arrive’ (到) are homophones, auspiciously alluding to the arrival of good fortune. 💡

Located at Island South, Bel-Air is situated in the most prestigious and sought-after residential area in Hong Kong. Pok Fu Lam can claim several firsts in the history of Hong Kong: It was the place where Hong Kong's floral emblem, Bauhinia blakeana, was first discovered; the site for Hong Kong's first reservoir, Pok Fu Lam Reservoir (1883, now part of a country park), and the site for Hong Kong's first dairy farm by five investors, including Sir Patrick Manson in 1885. The farm supplied not only milk, but cattle to Hong Kong, and later became Dairy Farm. ☀️

Ting Kau Bridge is a 1,177-metre-long cable-stayed bridge in Hong Kong that spans from the northwest of Tsing Yi Island and Tuen Mun Road. It is near the Tsing Ma Bridge which also serves as a major connector between the Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau Island and the rest of Hong Kong. It was completed on 5 May 1998. It is mostly used by container trucks coming from China to reach the docks or airport of Hong Kong. 🌉
