A 4-seat taxi 四座位的士
By the 1920s both buses and taxis were available and if you wished to take your car across the harbour, a lighter, ordered a day in advance, would come alongside to ferry the vehicle over and back. Hong Kong has always moved at a brisk pace and when automobiles, buses and trams were added to the flow of human traffic, the congestion - and the pace - along the city's main thoroughfares, increased alarmingly.

A 1930s view of Battery Path, a pedestrian-only footpath located beneath Government Hill in Central. Named after Murray Battery, it stretches from Queen's Road Central to Garden Road. The path is noted for many historical landmarks, most notably the former Central Government Offices, the former French Mission building and St. John's Cathedral.

Dr Sun Yat-sen, 'Father of the Nation', returned frequently to the colony that had helped shape his republican dreams. He is seen here seated in May 1912 with the British Colonial Secretary Claude Severn. Standing behind are two future governors, Cecil Clementi, in white suit, and Henry May, in uniform. On the left is Dr Ho Kai-ho, a mentor and benefactor of Dr Sun.
