Families aren’t generic, so why should their photos be?

That’s the beauty of bespoke photography. The session adapts to your family, not the other way around.

Instead of expecting your family to fit into a perfectly posed template, the session is shaped around who you are – the movement, the personalities, the little in-between moments that make your family feel like yours 🤍

Can we normalize being bad at things before we’re good at them?

Because somewhere along the way, a lot of women started believing they need to look polished, confident and professional before they put themselves out there.

The reality looks a lot more like this reel.
Forgotten lines.
Awkward pauses.
Random faces.
Starting again.
And again.
And again.

What people often call confidence is usually just repetition.

The reason some people look comfortable on camera isn’t because they were born that way.

It’s because they’ve recorded the awkward version of themselves enough times that it stopped feeling scary.

Every confident founder, speaker, creator and business owner started somewhere.

Usually looking a lot more like this than they’d like to admit.

So if you’ve been waiting until you feel confident enough to show up... You might have it backwards. Show up first.

Confidence tends to catch up later. 🩷

Meet Nicole 💕

Part creative producer, part client experience queen, part professional plate-spinner behind the scenes.

Nicole is the person making sure everything flows beautifully – from scheduling and communication to the tiny details that make families and schools feel genuinely cared for throughout the process. Calm under pressure, endlessly thoughtful, and somehow always five steps ahead.

She’s also been in Hong Kong for 15 years, and has over 250,000 photos in her camera roll 📷

She’s the kind of person you want in your corner – warm, capable, endlessly loyal, and always making things feel just a little more special 💛

owMost people think the goal of a family photo is to look perfect.

Perfect outfits. Perfect smiles. Perfect behaviour from the kids for at least five consecutive minutes 😅

But the photos families usually treasure most aren’t the perfectly posed ones. They’re the ✨real✨ ones.

Years from now, you probably won’t care whether everyone was looking at the camera; you’ll care about how it felt to hold them like that. 💛📸

The missing tooth might grow back. The baby cheeks will soften. They’ll stand a little taller, look a little older, and somehow become a whole new version of themselves.

That’s the beautiful thing about childhood: it changes in the blink of an eye.

Photographs let us hold onto the little moments we never realise we’re going to miss.

Capturing childhood, one school year at a time ✨

This week, I got the news that two new schools want to work with us next October. And while I’m incredibly excited, what makes it even more meaningful is this:

These aren’t schools I discovered yesterday.

These are schools I’ve been reaching out to, building relationships with and hoping to work with for years. Years.

It’s a good reminder that so much of what we call “success” looks very slow while it’s happening.

People often see the yes.

They don’t see the emails.
The follow-ups.
The conversations.
The years of showing up.
The years of improving.
The years of being patient.

We live in a world that loves overnight success stories.
But most meaningful things take much longer than we expect.

The truth is, a lot of the opportunities in my business today are the result of seeds planted years ago.

So if you’re working towards something and it feels like nothing is happening yet... Keep going.
Keep improving.
Keep showing up.
Keep planting seeds.

You never know which ones are quietly growing beneath the surface. 🩷

People like to say “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but hey… everyone does it 😅

Before anyone reads your experience, your achievements, or your carefully crafted LinkedIn bio, they’ve already formed an impression from your photo.

Not just how you look, but how you carry yourself:

👉 Confident or unsure?
👉 Approachable or distant?
👉 Current or still using a photo from five jobs ago?

Let’s update your headshot ASAP.

For a long time, I thought building a successful business meant working harder.
More hours.
More pressure.
More hustle.

And while hard work absolutely matters, one of the biggest shifts I made was deciding that I wanted to build a business people genuinely enjoyed being part of.
A place where we laugh.
Where we celebrate wins.
Where school days feel fun.
Where people feel valued, trusted and excited to show up.

What surprised me most? 😅

The more I focused on creating a great experience for the people around me, the better everything else became too.

The team got stronger.
The culture got stronger.
The work got better.
The business grew.

Joy is contagious. 🥰

And I’ve learned that when people enjoy what they’re building together, incredible things can happen. 🩷

One of the questions I ask families before a session is: "How do you want your photos to feel?”

Some families want something soft and serene, surrounded by nature. Others want barefoot, windswept beach moments that feel carefree and full of movement. And some love the energy of the city – vibrant, modern, and full of life.

The location shapes the feeling just as much as the photos themselves.

There’s no “right” choice. Just the one that feels most like you 💛📸

I have some exciting news… 🫣

JLP has been invited to apply to become the photography provider for ESF schools in Hong Kong. 🎉

As many of you know, I’ve spent years reimagining what school portraits can look and feel like.

Less forced smiles.
More personality.

Less “say cheese.”
More confidence, connection and genuine expressions.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the people who know best are the parents looking at these photographs years later.

So I’d love your help.

✨ What do you love most about your children’s school portraits?

✨ What do you wish was different?

✨ What would make school photos feel more meaningful, more modern or more representative of your child?

Drop a comment below or send me a DM.

I’m listening, taking notes, and dreaming big about what school portraits could become for the next generation of children and families.

Let’s build something amazing together. 🩷
