A while ago I was invited to help teach a class in food photography by Natalie Hiu Wai Chan for OWN Academy 自由學園. Kids these days are bright as ever, full of talent, and eager to learn. It is in our duty to help them expand their horizons beyond our traditional education. If we all had the chance when we were younger, who knows what other choices many of us could have made! Was honoured that I had this opportunity! Also if you haven't checked out OWN academy please do, Natalie is amazing and are doing great things for the community and our future generation!

People ask, why food photography? Well, we all grow up with different influences. My mom's Australian Women's Weekly recipe books kept me constantly intrigued as a child. My mother is as meticulate as the food she serves on the table. Growing up, I liked reading and I also liked seeing, and my eye poured over these beautiful visuals in the 90s created by traditional food stylists and photographers. I'll never forget the recipe book Traditional French Dining. Now that I get to create visuals that once inspired me, it is always an honour to look back at my very first inspirations, still sitting on the bookshelf at home.

Running around town shooting food all day is a task that is physically tougher than anyone expects, especially in Hong Kong's sub-tropical heat. You don't always get to eat the food, and that's actually a good thing (waistline!). This is somewhat of a milestone I wanted to hit since the early days of my photography career, now that I'm here, there will be even more reaching to do.
