This is the largest bamboo structured altar (temporary), and has entered the Guinness Book of Records. 17 bamboo master's spent 2 months to construct this masterpiece which measures around 3800+m2. A flag-lined, tin-roofed five-storey pavilion anchors the centuries-old Jiao Festival.

Held once every decade, the week-long thanksgiving ritual culminates late Thursday night with the burning of massive effigies.

Organised by the Tang clan, Kam Tin’s Jiao Festival features lion dances, vegetarian feasts, Taoist rites, and Cantonese opera, bringing tradition and community to the forefront.

我好榮幸今次可以與香港藝術家 Karen Aruba 及非遺手雕麻雀工藝師張誠忠師傅合作，以「巧雀奇緣 Mahjong Wanderlust」為主題，創作一系列結合攝影與設計的藝術作品 ——「匠心・脈動」

I’m truly honored to collaborate with Hong Kong artist Karen Aruba and Intangible Cultural Heritage mahjong carving Master Cheung Shing Chung, on a thematic series “Mahjong Wanderlust,” creating a collection of art that fuses photography and design — titled “Crafted Sprits•Cultural Pulse”

在這個節奏急速的時代，傳統工藝逐漸消逝。透過鏡頭，我重新演繹這些經典工藝元素，讓它們以全新形象延續生命。Karen 的設計與張師傅的手雕麻雀工藝，正好展現出傳統與現代的交融，讓香港的街頭風貌、文化記憶與藝術靈魂重新呼吸。守護傳統，不只是懷舊——而是啟發未來。

In this fast-changing era, traditional craftsmanship is quietly fading away.
Through my lens, I reinterpret these classic elements, giving them new life in a contemporary form.
Karen Aruba’s design and Master Cheung’s hand-carved mahjong craftsmanship embody the fusion of tradition and modernity,
bringing Hong Kong’s streets, cultural memories, and artistic spirit back to life.
To safeguard tradition is not merely to look back in nostalgia — but to inspire the future.
