Reely good looking β˜€οΈ

I think people often underestimate how many eels live on a coral reef, I have had very few dives where I haven't seen at least one. I wouldn't say they're friendly, but they're definitely not as threatening as they're made out to be πŸ’™

Two Varicose Wart Slugs (Phyllidia varicosa). I have not been able to find out which scientist bestowed these creatures with such a warty title, but if you know please share!

There's something about their bobbles that strikingly remind me of the everlasting gobstoppers in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie... 🍬
However, these creatures produce very toxic chemicals so the taste would certainly not be everlasting.

Cycloporus Venetus - the blue marine flatworm. Genuinely tiny, maybe 2-3cm but very much on the move and having a wriggle.

Always worth a second look if you spot a colour change on the reef - even when it's tiny πŸͺ±πŸ’™ see (3) for scale 🟒

They're so lovely. These baby whitetips snooze under mushroom corals in the day and wait for their mothers to return. It's very cute.

It's absolutely crucial not to scare these babies as by getting closer to take a photo you risk blocking their escape route although this little cove seemed genuinely unphased by the noisy human creatures in front of them.

I really love how the first image captures the personality of the squirrelfish(?) trying to get in front of the camera as well as the easy harmony of the reef fish and the remora hanging around the sharks.

Sharks are an absolutely integral part of the ocean's ecosystem and their very existence is to be celebrated as the sign of a healthy reef.

Happy World Oceans Day!

I've been saving this one. It is one of my most memorable interactions and favourite photos. I have suspicions that the ear trauma I suffered was caused by my determination to stay at this depth to continue our interaction.

Peacock Mantis Shrimp are known for their speed of sound ability to stun their prey. There was no threat to my hearing from this creature, but it was determined to investigate the large noisy creature and it's flashing lights.

A Leopard Nudibranch on the move🐈

It's fascinating to watch these creatures navigating the sea floor with their tiny eyes and the exploratory rolls of their body skirts, testing their surroundings.

If they could tuck you under their wings πŸƒ

A slow Manta Ray glide does not reflect the speed of excitement that builds when one flies towards you.

Trumpetfish are one of my favourites. Their iconic swimming angles and reef curiosity also make them stand out on a dive 🎺

They look like a long elongated muscle and while they're often shy, when they're hunting they're oblivious to you. I recall lingering here on the dive while this creature played peek-a-boo with me in the red sea fan πŸͺΈ
