On 1 February 2019, Cynthia Boll won the Dutch photojournalism Zilveren Camera award with her series 'Sinking Cities, Jakarta’.

About the consequences of land subsidence for the residents of North Jakarta. What it is like to live in sinking city Jakarta? She received this prestigious award in presence of the King of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

This series is also nominated for the Publieksprijs (public award). The award will definitely contribute raising awareness to the topic and Jakarta’s residents with a larger audience.

I follow Pak (mr) Lukman and his family since 2014, I will never forget the sweet heavy smell of the polluted water when I first visited his neighbourhood. I have witnessed his environment change over the years, I thought things could not get any worse but they did. The fish are gone. Every month he has to go out further to sea, but that is difficult because his boat is too small. "We take and we take, we give nothing back." Pak Lukman is right. How much more can we take? When is it really too much? I love the ocean too, however, what do I give back?! As a photographer I tell visual stories. The story of Pak Lukman is also our story. I made this video to let you experience the reality of plastic pollution through Pak Lukmans eyes. I hope it will contribute to raise awareness we have gone too far and it is time to give back. Please Share if you care.

Meet Mr Lukman, fisherman in the Bay of Jakarta. He will take you out fishing. See and feel what it's like to live with plastic pollution. Every year it is e...
