The closest I’ll ever get to having Sir David Attenborough narrate a natural history sequence I’ve created…. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID! I’ve been watching your documentaries for 40 years now! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I normally don’t take photos of the moon but Sunday night was an exception! I had visions of opening a bottle of wine, sitting on the roof and staying up late specifically to try and photograph the blood moon that happened during the lunar eclipse. I opened my nice bottle of wine… it was off and vinegary. As luck would have it, just as the moon got into the “blood” phase, the sky got covered with clouds. Typical. I waited half an hour seeing nothing but clouds and feeling very disheartened…. And then, a window of opportunity presented itself. For a couple of minutes there was a break in the cloud cover and I managed to capture this image. I was hoping to wait it out a little longer for another break in the clouds but then it started to rain and I finally had to call it a night. I went to bed feeling deflated. Now that I’ve had a chance to review the images, I’m full of happiness again!

As an underwater filmmaker, I’ve spent countless hours below the surface, capturing the stories of the ocean. Every frame in this carousel is more than just a beautiful moment — it’s a glimpse into a world that needs our protection.

1️⃣ Manta ray – intelligent, graceful, and vulnerable. These gentle giants are threatened by fishing and pollution.
2️⃣ Sharks – ancient guardians of the sea, vital to maintaining balance in marine ecosystems.
3️⃣ Porcupine fish – small but essential, part of the intricate reef web that’s disappearing faster than we can study it.
4️⃣ Eagle rays – moving in harmony, these animals remind me how delicate marine habitats really are.
5️⃣ Tiger shark – powerful, misunderstood, and declining in number. Apex predators are key to ocean health.

The more time I spend filming marine life, the clearer it becomes: we protect what we understand, and we only understand what we take time to see.

The ocean isn’t just a place of beauty — it’s a life support system.
Let’s keep fighting for it. For the animals. For the future. 💙
