My first morning walk after a few months. The sun is shining brightly after several days of cloudy weather, which means I have no excuse not to take a walk. Sadly, I found no excitement after taking several pictures anymore.

I suppose I have to force myself to take more pictures to feel that excitement again.

So, yesterday, I intended to bring my camera from Salatiga to Jogja to take pictures of the Sheila On 7 concert, but since I arrived late, I couldn’t get to the front row. I was reluctant to take my camera since I didn’t bring my tele lens, which was already crowded on the scene.

But luckily, later in the morning, I managed to go to the brand-new modern UGM sports center: GIK. The place is fantastic! Contemporary architecture at its finest. They also have a two-hectare rooftop garden, which wasn’t yet inaugurated when I arrived.
I don’t think the place is publicly open since there weren’t many people hanging out there, but I can see some food vendors already open.

I can’t help but take my camera and shoot some pictures. The building itself is mainly black. So when the sun is at the right angle, it can give you a stunning shadow that blends with the building. I can’t wait for the rooftop to be publicly open. It’s going to be a wonderful place to hang out.

A few days ago, I saw an advertisement on the street bout a blood drive held at Kayu Arum Resort in Salatiga. I couldn’t remember how many years had been since I donated my blood, and I asked my friend if he wanted to participate, too.

Finally, we decided to walk to the resort from my place to take some photos along the way. When we arrived at our destination, we were surprised that so many people were enthusiastic about this blood drive event. It turned out that this resort, in collaboration with PMI, has routinely held this blood drive every two months.

Hopefully, in two months, I will have the opportunity to donate blood again.

It’s been a year since I brought my camera for a morning walk.

A YEAR!

I’ve been taking pictures with my camera since eight years ago, and I consider it my hobby. For the first two to four years, I fell in love with Minolta Rokkor’s vintage lenses and have collected many of them, including countless useful and less helpful pieces of photography gear.

Within the first five years, I still felt excited to take a morning or afternoon walk with my camera at least once a month. But that excitement slowly faded away in the last two years. Sometimes, I bring my camera every weekend when I go to Jogja, but it’s hard to find that catchy moment to snap with my camera. The only thing that keeps me motivated is when there’s a family vacation or event.

After several months of cloudy mornings, God blew the clouds away today, forcing me to take my camera and go for a morning walk.

I cannot lie. The excitement still lingers, especially when I find the “moment.” Capturing people’s interactions with others and nature brings me joy and peace. But maintaining that kind of excitement is really hard.

So, fellow street photographer, what are your tips for keeping yourself enthusiastic about taking photos with your camera on the street?

It turned out that my son has a thing with animals. One day, he asked to go to the zoo. But since it's a rainy season, we chose to go to the mini zoo that wasn't far from our place.

The place is called Obelix Village in Sleman, Yogyakarta, and this is our second trip here. They offer an interactive zoo so we can interact with the animals by feeding or petting them. Not many animals were in this mini-zoo, usually the small ones like birds, ducks, geese, goats, peacocks, deer, and you can even ride a little pony.

What interests my son the most is reptiles. Iguana and snakes, to be precise. While his mother screamed from far away for my son not to get too close, it didn't bother him to explore more about the creature's anatomy from a close range.

As for me, I'm just glad I'm the one holding the camera, so I don't have to get too close to them.
