Traveling Light Photography Hi! My name's Michelle, and I'm a photographer, writer and podcaster.

On the Oblivious Witness podcast, I speak with guests about the things they've witnessed as they've travelled around the world, and how those things have made them who they are.

It’s one of those days when I so wish I’d taken my good camera out on my daily dog walk…

How lucky we are that the beautiful people of Bali allow us to share their island home and witness their beautiful culture. I’ll never stop being grateful for this stunning opportunity. 💕

I love going to open-mic poetry nights and hearing other people’s wonderful words, witnessing their bravery as they get on stage to share them. I’ve attended many times, sitting appreciatively in the audience. But I finally had to acknowledge that if you’re going to greedily consume other people’s creativity, it’s only right that you should contribute by having the courage to share some of your own.

So last night I stood on the stage at the Indus Supper Club event that was brilliantly MC’d by Michael M. Clements for Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2026, and read my poem, “Kiss the Hand”.

This is a long video - at 3.5 minutes, it won’t be promoted by IG, and I don’t expect many people will watch it - but I wanted to leave it here as a reminder to myself that I should feel the fear and do it anyway. Words are the tools by which I understand the lives of other people, and I want to thank them for their generosity by also asking that they carefully cradle some of mine. 💕

Such adventures in the black lava and black sand fields of Mr Batur this morning! From misty beginnings to a sun-drenched, sandy end… It couldn’t have been more fun. 💕

In a life full of pinch-me moments, this one is close to the top of the list of the most wonderful and surreal… Did I really have a long chat with one of the world’s most revered and respected writers for the Oblivious Witness podcast? Yes, yes, indeed I did. 😊

It was such an honour to have this conversation with Pico Iyer, author of many best-selling books including his latest - Aflame: Learning From Silence. Pico has also presented five TED Talks, which have reached an audience of upward of eleven million people.

Pico’s kindness, warmth, curiosity and generosity come through in every word of this conversation. Please enjoy, wherever you get your podcasts.
