Towards the end of an evening in Dunree, looking northwards as they sun set over to the west.
10 stops left me with 3 minutes and 9 seconds of the tide going out and the clouds coming in.
A nice peaceful easy feeling sitting there in the long grass waiting on the timer to run down.

Last Saturday afternoon I spent a few hours in the Ballyliffen Lodge shooting a number of dresses for Nicola McLaughlin of TheSequinCinderella fame.
Thanks to the models who were great, showing lots of patience whilst I wrestled with different lighting and poses.

Venturing outside Inishowen always throws up unexpected delights, and a recent trip up to Fanad Head was no different. The lighthouse itself I have seen many times from this side of Lough Swilly, but this was the first time I've been up around there myself.
Whilst the weather didn't start out so good first thing, it turned into a marvellous afternoon.
This first shot is of the lighthouse itself as it looks out across the mouth of the Swilly, you can see across to Dunaff Head in the distance with Leenan and Urris clearly visible.

Another evening spent splashing around the surf along Inishowen's Wild Atlantic Way. This time around Malin Head, our country's most Northerly point.
I found this row of rocks heading straight out to sea with all the seaweed remaining on the beach and thought it provided a nice contrast between the ribbon like textures of the plant, and the rocky textures of the, well, rocks.
Rather than capturing a fleeting moment, a wave crashing, spray bouncing, I opted for the longer exposure which has left the surf all milky and misty.
This was a nigh on 3 minute exposure via the Tiffen 10 stop which is still producing a difficult colour cast.

The Wild Atlantic Way stretches all the way around Inishowen before heading off around the far side of Donegal on it's craggy voyage down Irelands western seaboard.
This month see's the Buncrana Camera Club's theme focusing on the Way around Inishowen and with that in mind, a small crowd of weather-hardened photographers headed to Kinnego Bay in search of the tide on the turn and some stunning vistas.
Errr, well, typical Wild Atlantic Weather put pay to that so the focus was on the tidal comings and goings around the rocks and seaweed on the shoreline.
This shot was from up the left side of the beach with a 2 and 1/2 second exposure to catch the water coming in and rushing out again.

The granite strewn beach in Urris remains one of my favourite places to photograph a sunset and last Tuesday saw me head down again to see which way the clear sky was going to turn.
Unfortunately a bank of cloud starting encroaching on the horizon as the sun approached but then there was this beautiful blue light as a result.
The rocks here go like glass after the tide washes over them and results in some lovely reflections.
This shot was taken with my 35mm Sigma lens which is fast becoming my favourite for landscapes, even though it's not a conventional focal length for it.
Also experimenting with a 6x7 crop on this, obviously in preparation for when I get my Hasselblad....

So the whizzy scientists and solar meteorologists were all bandying around some figures last night that suggested the Aurora Borealis would be in fine form and visible from where we are here in the north of Ireland. Seems they were right, however, this is the first time I've tried to take these shots, and it was last thing before I turned in for the night, but I gave it a shot.
Also found that processing these images is an art in itself. I have tried to keep this one as low key as possible without going mad, but there's evident light pollution and haze low in the sky making it difficult.

Standing 800ft above the Donegal landscape, Grianan of Aileach has been looking out across the lands for about 1400 years. Renovated to it's current state over the last century or so, it's an impressive ringfort structure and one that commands views over many counties on a good day.
Lying nestled in the hillside just down from the fort itself is a well dedicated to St. Patrick and there's no better day than today to show it!

Despite the calendar showing March 2nd, someone upstairs hasn't apparently realised this yet and decided to dump a covering of snow across the place over night. As I missed out on the last round of snow, thought I'd better do something about it this time and ventured up through the Illies, past the Pollan Dam and tried to catch the light hitting the hills behind the lake before the incoming hailstorm caused a whiteout. Which it did as I was packing up the kit in the car.
This shot is a 13 shot panorama using a pano head that I'm still coming to terms with.

This shot was my competition entry into our Camera Club's January round of the POTY. Category was 5 second + exposures, and this one clocked in at 20 seconds thanks to the 10 stopper.
There were a number of factors trying to prevent this image being created but we got over them and ended up with this view across the mount of the Crana River where it meets the Swilly. In the distance can be seen the snowcapped peaks towards the centre of Donegal.
Quite a lot of processing in Lightroom on this one.

First off, a belated Happy New Year to all my viewers, I hope it's a good one for you all.
It's taken me a little while to get going this year, but the recent (and ongoing!) storms provided a small window yesterday morning between the hail showers where the low morning sun would hit the hills and the waves and combined with the big swell in the Swilly, resulted in some great crashing waves up the Inishowen coastline.
This shot was taken from Culpaghs Rocks in Linsfort where I had a constant battle against the wind and the sea spray. Certainly blew the cobwebs away!
