Lapwing chick emerging from its mothers protection after a heavy shower of rain whilst its sibling remains under her body. On a negitive note all of the Lapwings I saw today only had two chicks compared to three's and four's last year, I hope the later broods are a lot better. (please note this photo was not taken on or near the nest)

Youngish Red Deer stag in the morning light resplendent in its developing red coat that its name is derived from. The antlers are beginning to grow covered in velvet to protect then whilst they develop. The antlers of a deer are the fastest growing tissue of any animal and can put on a growth rate of from one half to one and a half inches per day depending on its habitat.
