The dramatic yew tree 🌳 growing in the middle of the cloisters of Muckross Abbey Killarney- click on photo for full image. It's always assumed that the tree was planted by the Franciscans when they built the Abbey in 1448, giving it an age of nearly 580 years. Others argue that the Abbey was built around the tree which was already mature and well established, making this tree a lot older. There's plenty of evidence that in earlier times, ecclesiastical sites were chosen on the basis that an old yew tree grew there. 💚☘️⛪️.

The weather in Ireland this week is glorious. Beautiful weather leads to beautiful sunsets ☀️, just like this one in Oysterhaven (near Kinsale) Co.Cork ❤️. So peaceful too 🙏

In the first few decades of the 20th century, many houses in Ireland had no running water. Water pumps (like the one in the photo) were the main source of water for drinking and for household use. In parishes, towns and villages throughout the island of Ireland 🇮🇪, in the days before social media 🙂, people met and chatted and got all the local news and gossip as they filled their water. Most of these pumps are no longer in operation, but local tidy towns groups are going to great lengths to make sure they were well preserved. Even though they are largely redundant, they continue to add character and charm to the local parishes, villages and towns throughout the Emerald Isle 💚☘️. Ferd's Photos 📸
