Family photos are not just for mums.

When I look back through the years of family and newborn sessions in my Greystones studio, some of the images that families treasure most are the ones of dad with his children.

The way a newborn fits into his hands. The laughter of a toddler being lifted into the air. The quiet connection of a child curled up on his shoulder. These moments often happen every day, yet somehow become some of the most meaningful photographs over time.

With Father's Day on Sunday 21st June, now is a lovely time to think about giving a gift that lasts far beyond the day itself. A family photography session creates photographs for the whole family, while also making sure dad is in the frame and part of the story.

CASTING CALL - NEWBORN MODEL WANTED

I'm looking for a newborn baby aged 7-14 days old to take part in a model session in my Greystones studio on Tuesday 23rd June.

This session will be used to create new photographs and video content for my website, social media channels and wider marketing materials. By taking part, parents are agreeing that the images and video captured during the session may be used for promotional and portfolio purposes across my business.

As a thank you for your participation and consent, you will receive 4 professionally edited digital images free of charge.

The session will be styled and photographed in the same calm, baby-led way as all of my newborn sessions, with plenty of time for feeding, settling and cuddles.

I'm a newborn and family photographer based in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, and this is a wonderful opportunity to receive beautiful professional photographs while helping me create new content for my portfolio and marketing.

WHAT TO WEAR FRIDAYS

It's time for another edition of What to Wear Fridays, my weekly styling series created to help families feel confident when planning outfits for their photo session.

This week's palette combines navy, ivory, soft blush and warm tan tones. It's a great example of how one stronger colour can anchor the entire look while the lighter shades keep everything soft, elegant and timeless.

The children's outfits coordinate beautifully without looking identical, while the parents' clothing adds structure and balance to the overall palette. The result is cohesive, polished and very easy to photograph.

When planning family outfits, I always recommend choosing a colour story rather than trying to match everyone exactly. Mixing complementary tones, textures and fabrics creates images that feel natural and effortless.

Over the years, so many of the wonderful people who have come to my studio have done so because someone they trust shared their experience. It is something I never take for granted.

A photo should make you feel something.

Not just see a smile, but feel the laughter behind it.

Not just see a newborn, but feel the emotion of those first days together.

Not just see a portrait, but feel the closeness, the love, the connection between the people in it.

That is always what I'm looking for when I photograph a family.

Years from now, I don't want these images to simply remind you what everyone looked like. I want them to bring you back to how it felt to hold them, hear their giggles, breathe in that newborn scent, or wrap your arms around them when they still fit perfectly in your lap.

Whether it's a newborn session, a family portrait, or an older baby session, the goal is always the same - creating photographs that feel as meaningful in twenty years as they do today.

WHAT TO WEAR FRIDAYS

Welcome to the first post in a new weekly series designed to take the stress out of choosing outfits for your family photos.

Every Friday I'll be sharing real outfit inspiration based on sessions photographed here in the studio and on location, showing how simple colour palettes and thoughtful styling can make a huge difference to the finished images.

This week's inspiration is built around soft neutrals, warm beige tones and gentle blue accents. The outfits work together without being overly matching, allowing the focus to stay firmly on the people in the photographs.

Notice how the colours complement each other while introducing subtle variety through texture, pattern and tone. This creates a timeless look that photographs beautifully and won't feel dated years from now.

With the evenings getting longer and some beautiful weather finally making an appearance, it's the perfect time to update your family photographs. June is one of my favourite times for outdoor sessions - everything is green, the light is softer, and children can simply be themselves outdoors.
