Eithne Vallely: a somber day for all at the Armagh Pipers Club and the wider trad family in Ulster and beyond. Eithne leaves the world quite literally a richer place because of her steadfastness, friendship and dedication to raising a new generation of those who can carry their musicality and song into their generation and even make a living from it. That has multiplied over the 60 years that the club has been running and so many individuals and groups have formed and continue to carry the skills and musicianship that bring so much joy to audiences everywhere.
It was less than three weeks ago that I called in with Brian and Eithne T their Atmagh base and we had a lovely one hour catch up and both Eithne and Brian were in fine form.

A whistle stop trip to England to see daughter Rebecca into her new Sheffield home. Needless to say a round trip was in the offing and stops at Boroughbridge, Prudhoe Castle near Newcastle, Hexham Abbey and the magnificent ruins of Corbridge Roman Town and Hadrian’s Wall. Amazing place and those Roman forts are massive.

A brief trip over to Rathlin Island last weekend with Tom and Liz to stay in this amazing Airbnb above the harbour with views out to Torr Head, Fair Head and the Mull of Kintyre behind the east lighthouse.
Meals at the Manor House and fine coffee with the Lazy Bird.
