Should footballers be loyal to their clubs in an age where it all is coming down to a business?
Now, more than ever, football clubs are behaving like companies than the romanticized idea of being part of the society that we had of them. It has become common practice for richer ~companies~ teams to buy the best players from their poor local rivals to exert dominance and kill competition, just like in any other big business.
players are often accused of not having ethics, love, or commitment for a club if they accept playing for their rivals later in their careers. They are considered mercenaries if they go to earn rivers of money in Qatar or China. Go to a big team? No challenge, they want it easy. Go to a small team? What a fool, he will never be the best.
who spent his whole professional life at is now living that paradox. Whatever destiny he chooses for his career will be criticized for one or another reason, and the feeling that he betrayed their current employers will always be attached to his image. Would that ever happen in another professional area?
If football continues to become more and more business-oriented, where money reigns over passion, it will be even rarer to see footballers spending their career dedicated to one single club. Can you imagine people pressing you to stay in a job you hate or judging you for having accepted earning a bigger wage for being the best in the industry?
What do you think? Football should be treated as any other business? Leave a comment with your opinion below!
