My attempt at the “Diamond Ring” at this years Total Solar Eclipse from El Toro in Mallorca 🇪🇸 Absolutely not as sharp as I would have liked but still a magical moment to witness in person with so many others. So many for the first time. For me, to see it so close to the horizon was so so special. Can’t wait for the next one in August 2027 🌙💍

Unfortunately my shots of the corona at totality and the diamond ring stage didn’t work out for me this year. I was doing my best to try to manage the live stream and the settings are so different from each stage with no time to spare between, diamond ring, baileys beads and totality. In 2024 I had no video as I accidentally hit the focus ring at totality, but had all the photos. This year I got the video but not the photos I wanted. Next year I’ll try again to capture everything 🙏

Where will you be watching next week’s Total Solar Eclipse?
This image is the first diamond ring of the April 2024, Total Solar Eclipse. A bright flash of sunlight that appears on the edge of the Moon about 10 seconds before totality. It looks like a giant diamond ring because the faint solar corona forms a glowing circle around the Moon.

Taken April 8th 2024. The last Total Solar Eclipse that I was lucky enough to experience in the USA.
This photo shows Totality and the sun’s corona, the outermost part of the sun’s atmosphere. It is made of hot, glowing gas and plasma that reach temperatures of 1 to 2 million degrees Celsius. It stretches millions of miles into space and becomes the solar wind.

The final diamond ring of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse is a brilliant flash of sunlight that reappears on the edge of the Moon as totality ends. It signals the abrupt finish of the total phase, turning the faint solar corona back into a blinding partial eclipse and requiring viewers to put on their solar eclipse glasses.
