We humans are all tiny black dots, if seen from afar. We are all made
of the same materials. We were born on a planet and slowly our species
have moulded this planet to accommodate our needs. A society
formed and with it conforms, normalities, rules and hierarchies took
shape. I am fascinated by how we behave in this ‘society, how we interact
with what we built and what was already here. In my wor
k I dissect
parts of this society. Mainly I work with the absence of humans in human
made structures. This fascinates me because our presence lingers
in our absence, like an echo or residue of our existence. A place,
landscape or room works as a portrait of what lives within. Without
actually capturing humans in an image I try to capture a piece of our
essence, a part of this portrait that is left behind. I like to work mostly as an observer, I do not like to interfere too much
with my subject as we already interfere with each other enough. Light and aesthetics are tools I use to try and place the viewer in my
shoes, give them the feeling I had in that place at that time, but also
to attract attention to places and things which otherwise might have
gone unnoticed. Above all I am drawn to images and places that make me feel something
undefined. A place where you may feel uneasy yet intrigued,
confronted with yourself or your ideas. I want my audience to feel, feel as intensely as we can, for this is how
our species becomes more than just materials. This, to me, is how we
become more at peace with this big blue and green globe that we
call home and ourselves.
