Unique summer travel destinations that will leave your friends and family asking, “you went where?!”

When traveling as digital nomads, we got to visit many places we wouldn’t have picked otherwise!

We had the time and we had to follow the Schengen zone rules, which means we couldn’t stay in certain parts of Europe past 90 days. This pushed us to countries in Europe that aren’t part of the Schengen Zone, like Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina!

Here are 5 of the unique places we would recommend:

🇸🇪 Sweden is one of our favorite countries in the world! We got the chance to visit the South of Sweden with our friends and truly recommend if you want a quiet summer by the sea! Visit Malmö, Gothenburg, Helsingborg as well as the Kullen Peninsula in Skåne!

🇲🇪 We spent 6 weeks in Montenegro in the middle of summer and we loved it! We based in Dobrota, right outside of the Old Town of Kotor and loved the more local vibe! Rent a car and roadtrip the country! You’ll love Durmitor National Park!

🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina is such an important country to visit! There’s so much recent history that we never knew about until actually visiting. Sarajevo has such a beautiful, unique culture and the nature is unreal! Visit Mostar and go Canyoning!

🇫🇷 The Calanques are a breathtaking series of steep walled limestone coves stretching along the coast between Marseille and Cassis! You’ll want a few days exploring the national park, as well as a few days in Marseille!

🇸🇮 Slovenia stole our hearts! We spent a week living/working in the capital city of Ljubljana and couldn’t believe more people aren’t talking about this city! It has everything other European cities have, without the crowds! We were there during a summer concert series and got to see free shows every night! Don’t miss visiting Lake Bled!

We’re .and.steph 👋 We LOVE Scotland and have spent a total of two months in and around Edinburgh! Here are 5 of our favorite day trips from the city!

⭐️ Stirling - Stirling offers a striking blend of history and scenery, crowned by Stirling Castle perched high on a volcanic rock with sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. You can also hike up to the Wallace Monument, walk along the River Forth and explore the old town!

⭐️ Portobello Beach - The coast is an easy 20 minute bus ride from the center of Edinburgh and a perfect place to spend a sunny day (if you’re lucky enough to get one)!

⭐️ St. Andrews - St Andrews is known as the home of golf! You can play at the iconic golf course (they have mini golf too) or walk around the cute college town!

⭐️ Glenfinnan - Don’t miss a trip to the highlands! We booked an amazing tour that took us all the way up to Glenfinnan to see the Glenfinnan Viaduct & Hogwarts express!

⭐️ Loch Lomond - If you want a taste of the highlands without taking a tour, you can take the bus to Loch Lomond, where you’ll get some of the most gorgeous views!! We loved the Conic Hill hike!

The best European Summer destination 💦

We don’t just recommend one part of Montenegro, we recommend you rent a car and explore it all!

We based our travels in Dobrota, right outside of the Kotor Old Town. Most people vacationing here are other Europeans looking for a peaceful summer vacation, so it’s quiet and relaxing.

The water and views in the Bay of Kotor are unmatched so you’ll spend a lot of time enjoying the peace of it all without tourist crowds!

Don’t skip out on 📍Antibes, France 🇫🇷

We stayed in Antibes for a month and fell in love with the place! It’s a lot less visited than other cities in Southern France and the perfect place to base for your trip!

We stayed about a 20 minute walk from the old town and loved the local vibe!

Things to do in Antibes:
⭐️ Rent bikes from and explore the Cap d’Antibes! We also loved visiting Plage des Ondes, a small local beach!
⭐️ Visit Musée Picasso
⭐️ Tour Le Fort Carré
⭐️ Shop the Old Town and explore Port Vauban - one of Europe’s largest marinas.
⭐️ Rent kayaks in Juan les Pins
⭐️ Visit Baie des Milliardaires d’Antibes
