Ruthless Imagery Professional Music and Event Photography by Ruth Medjber Music photographer Ruth Medjber* was born in Marino, Dublin to Irish/Algerian parents. with a BA Hons.

She graduated from D.I.T. in Photography in 2008. Her work has been exhibited extensively in Ireland as well as Internationally. She photographs mainly for Hot Press magazine, while working from her studios in London and Dublin. Her photography has been featured in the likes of Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, The NME, Rolling Stone, Rock Sound, Terrorizer and Classic Rock among others. Her portfolio inclu

des Metallica, Beyonce, Madonna, Muse, Green Day, Jay Z....and so many more. Her professional injuries include the time Beck stood on her fingers, and the time Slash smacked her with his guitar – but both later apologized. Ruth (who has been vegetarian since she found out where black pudding came from) was not much of a foodie until recently when she became staff snapper for the delicious food industries magazine, Service!. You can always rely on Ruth to be playing with her food and bossing the head chef around (all in the name of art of course). Ruth loves the smell of darkroom chemistry, hates tinnitus and until the age of 5 thought that her Father saw in sepia tones (due to his darker Algerian complexion).

243/365 Kate Finegan, Dublin. 

We caught up with Kate in the midst of rehearsals for her Dublin Fringe Festival show, West Meath Gothic. It sounds like an eerie tale, addressing the epidemic of loneliness in rural Ireland. Kate has brought all of her worlds together for this show; writing, acting and aerial dance and today she tells me the reality of bringing a show to life in 2026. 

 It opens on Sept 16th in the Project Arts Centre and if the promo photos are anything to go by, it’s going to be STUNNING.

242/365 Ruairí Kell, Dublin City Centre. 

Ruairí is just 34 years old and has already gone through a marriage and a divorce, but he hasn’t let that temporary bad patch decide the tone of the rest of his life. On the contrary. Ruairí has thrown out the rule book. He takes the ups and downs in his stride, learning from them, while leaning on the support of good friends and therapy. He has used cycling, music, books and photography to revive his life and no longer worries about what he can’t control.

Amy De Bhrún, Dublin. 

Amy might look familiar. She’s an Irish actress who you would see on your screens. I had the fortune of working with on a movie a few years back, but it’s not her acting career we sat down to talk about for today’s Sin Sceal Eile podcast.

In 2021, her second child, River, was born. When it was time to start saying his first few words, they noticed he was a bit delayed. After that, came a diagnosis of autism. 

Amy felt that after the diagnosis, the onus was very much on herself and her husband Sean to find the help that they needed for River, so she started researching as much as she could. 

She quickly realised that the stereotype of autism that she had seen depicted on TV and in film is not a fair representation of the spectrum of autism, or the autistic traits that she has since experienced with River. This misrepresentation can sometimes lead to more trauma and even in some cases, a delayed diagnosis.

In order to show the more nuanced and brilliant side of her son’s autistic traits, Amy took it upon herself to write a short film, Samhain. It’s about a mother processing her grief and love following her son's autism diagnosis.

240/365 Kalle Ryan, Electric Picnic. 

Kalle (pronounced like Tallaght) is a performance artist and poet. He does this very clever and creative type of performance down at festivals where he wanders around with his Swedish mother’s vintage typewriter. He’ll encounter new people, ask them a few questions and then write them a bespoke poem on the spot. An artifact that I bet is treasured for life.

Claire is the cutest self-professed Anorak you’ll ever meet. Radio obsessed since a young age, she’s worked across many different types of radio stations, including the best Irish radio station that there ever was, the pirate station, Phantom FM (in my humble opinion, of course). You can now find her behind the decks at every worthy festival, where she carefully curates an amazing playlist that gets even the most hungover soldiers bopping again.

238/365 Síomha Hennessy, Dublin. 

“Gaelmaxxing” is the title of Síomha’s new show at the Dublin Fringe this year. She was brought up speaking Irish as her first language in Dublin, which is rare enough. Back then, she says, “it wasn’t cool”. Not like it is now. Síomha is a writer, singer, comedian, artist and activist. She puts her money where her mouth is, sometimes saying the things that we all wish we could.

Her show will be bilingual, but mostly as gaeilge! It opens in Bewley’s Theatre from Sept 6th to 12th!

237/365 - Jade O’Doherty, Dublin.

I’ll admit that Jade’s story was difficult to hear, simply because I naively thought we were beyond such experiences, especially since the marriage referendum. Her story is about falling in love with your soulmate and then having to change your entire life as you know it.
It’s about introspection, courage, and living your truth. Her coming out journey was not without its trauma, but thankfully she gets her happily ever after!

235/365 Barry Coleman, Dublin. 

We all know dogs are class. But then there's Koda, who alerted his Dad to a medical condition that otherwise would have gone untreated. Now that's a VERY good boy. Barry was once obsessed with training, running, ultra marathoning. He'd run through the parks and woods, not paying much heed to his surroundings. His recent health scare literally forced him to slow down and discover the quiet, sometimes hidden beauty that he had been missing.
