Ruthless Imagery Professional Music and Event Photography by Ruth Medjber Music photographer Ruth Medjber* was born in Marino, Dublin to Irish/Algerian parents. with a BA Hons.

She graduated from D.I.T. in Photography in 2008. Her work has been exhibited extensively in Ireland as well as Internationally. She photographs mainly for Hot Press magazine, while working from her studios in London and Dublin. Her photography has been featured in the likes of Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, The NME, Rolling Stone, Rock Sound, Terrorizer and Classic Rock among others. Her portfolio inclu

des Metallica, Beyonce, Madonna, Muse, Green Day, Jay Z....and so many more. Her professional injuries include the time Beck stood on her fingers, and the time Slash smacked her with his guitar – but both later apologized. Ruth (who has been vegetarian since she found out where black pudding came from) was not much of a foodie until recently when she became staff snapper for the delicious food industries magazine, Service!. You can always rely on Ruth to be playing with her food and bossing the head chef around (all in the name of art of course). Ruth loves the smell of darkroom chemistry, hates tinnitus and until the age of 5 thought that her Father saw in sepia tones (due to his darker Algerian complexion).

198/365 - Adrian O'Connell, Hibernacle, Orlagh House, Dublin. 

I met Adrian down at the festival, his friend nominated him and told me that he’d be a great shout for the podcast. He wasn’t wrong. 

I met Adrian for a brief chat, not knowing anything about him. What I found was a sweet, soft spoken man, who is extremely passionate about music. He talks so enthusiastically about other musician’s work, which is quite frankly, lovely to see. He’s an artist in an engineer's world, playing guitar and writing songs to ease his soul. 

He’s grieving the loss of his father, Des, who just three weeks ago left this world and by all accounts, sounds like he would have been delightful to chat to as well.

197/365 - Sharon Moroney, Hibernacle, Orlagh House, Dublin. 

Well, if ever there was a person to say “music is life” it’s Sharon. She has lived what some would consider a “normal life”. Faced with very little job opportunities when she left school in the 80s, she took whatever job was going and was quite content with that. She built a home, raised her kids, but when she was secure and happy, it was time to rediscover her love of music. 

She once considered herself to be a shy person, but since throwing herself into music, she’s anything but. Sharon now goes to sean nós singing workshops, folk music gatherings, and has sung in choirs to 40,000 people.

196/365 - Emmet O’Brien, Hibernacle, Orlagh House, Dublin. 

Emmet is the MC for the weekend down at Hibernacle festival. It's a small, gorgeous gathering of art and music loving folk, so Emmet fits right in. He’s a poet, born and reared in Cabra and is lucky enough to still live there. We had a lovely chat about his work delivering poetry workshops in schools and prisons, as well as what it really means to make a living as an artist in 2026.

He and Kyle started Open Hive and now they keep hives across Ireland. We donned some fetching suits and met the hive out Mark's back garden and learned all about what makes bees so crucial to our world.

A Dub who has found her tribe in West Clare. Jacinta is an actor and a writer who moved to Miltown Malbay from Dublin’s inner city and has never looked back. She’s settled in a new home, surrounded by nature, where her two boys can have space and her new little puppy, Travis, can be the centre of attention.

193/365 - Kev Cotter, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. 

Kev has been through the wars recently. I sat with him in his front room, surrounded by his vinyl collection and with his tiny dog, Penny, on his lap. He was so incredibly honest with me and told me his story of overcoming alcoholism, heartbreak, grief and loss. His main reason for talking to me today is so that other people know that it’s OK not to be OK, and when you need help, put your hand up, ask for it, and if they don’t hear you, ask again.

192/365 - Esther-Mary D’Arcy. The Burren, Co. Galway. 

It was Esther-Mary who reached out to me first to nominate her husband Gordon (episode 191/365) to be in the project. It wasn’t long after meeting her that it was hugely apparent that I needed to include her in the series as well. 

She’s an incredibly accomplished physiotherapist who followed in her mother’s footsteps. She has spent her life travelling across the world as part of her work, but always returning home to their glorious cottage (and gallery) in the Burren. 

Esther-Mary and Gordon are a truly inspirational couple. They support each other's work and passions, while thoroughly enjoying life.

191/365 - Gordon D’Arcy, The Burren, Co. Galway.

Gordon is a bit of a local legend out in the West of Ireland. His work as a Burren tour guide sees him meeting hoards of intrigued tourists each year and guiding them around our unique landscape. He’ll happily point out the native lizards, frogs and hundreds of birds that surround us in what some mistakenly take for a barren landscape.

Nature is Gordon’s hobby, his passion and his life’s work. He paints beautiful depictions of Irish wildlife, sometimes straight onto stone, and many times in beautiful hardback books. In his latest book, ‘Birdstyle’, he has elegantly captured the characteristics of 112 beautiful Irish birds.

190/365 - Holly Duffy, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare.

If ever there was an episode of this podcast series that I would like the government to listen to, it’s this one. As we travel around all of Ireland and speak to a whole host of different people, all from different socio-economic backgrounds and different generations, there is one topic that is affecting absolutely everyone. The housing crisis.

Holly, her partner Joe, and their small child are victims of this crisis. Each summer they have to leave a rental home in order to make room for tourists. No matter what county they try (and they’ve been moving a lot), it seems they can’t find any decent, affordable and permanent places to live. Not the most ideal situation with a child who’ll be starting school in a few years.

Holly knows that being on a single income is inhibiting their house hunt. However, she’s in a bit of a catch 22 situation. She secured a job recently, but then couldn't find childcare that didn’t cost more than what the job paid. She has since started her own photography business, something she hopes she can do around her partner's hours and in tandem with caring for her son.

189/365 - Katie Boyle, Woodquay, Galway. 

Katie is 22 years old, living and working in Galway city. She’s studying journalism and has a particular interest in documentary making. She works in a bar to pay her way through college and through this work finds herself having so many different conversations a day. She’s particularly interested in researching and advocating for men’s mental health. It’s a topic that worries her a lot, especially after losing so many young male friends to su***de in as many years.
