SUNRISE OVER MARSH GRASSES

Just after the sun rose above the horizon, the sky was was bathed in sublime light and colour - well worth the early morning trek.

The light show began in earnest as the sun just broke above the horizon. The awaiting clouds were illuminated and the light on the beach was magical !

It may have felt like -3˚C this morning, but as the sun began to work its magic on the awaiting clouds, feeling the bitter cold disappeared.
The light and colour were spectacular - even the forms in the clouds reflected those of the mudflats - harmony in Nature.

THE BEAUTY OF PSC's

Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSCs), also known as Nacreous Clouds from nacre, or Mother of Pearl, due to their iridescence, are clouds in the winter polar stratosphere. PSCs are wave clouds. They are often found downwind of mountain ranges, which can induce gravity waves in the lower stratosphere.

POLAR STRATOSPHERIC CLOUDS

What a surprise this morning !
I had been out earlier and returned home when I noticed some unusual light in the sky.
A quick dash out to the beach and I captured a series of photographs of Polar Statospheric Clouds in the skies over Blackrock.
These clouds are commonly caller "Mother of Pearl Clouds" - they display iridescent colouring and are formed from a combination of nitric acid and water and appear at temperatures of -78˚C and at 50000 - 80000 ft (15 k- 25k m) .
Science lesson over !

I have only photographed these clouds twice in Blackrock, County Louth - a very rare phenomenon here !
