Outside Dundalk in County Louth is the Anglo-Norman Castle of Castle Roche. The castle is believed to have been built in 1236. There is a legend that the owner of the castle, Rohesia de Verdun, promised to marry the architect and then pushed him to his death from a window. This is almost certainly untrue, but it typifies the rough and ready nature of the early Norman nobility of Ireland quite well. Inside the castle are the remains of halls, storerooms, guardhouses and wells. The castle is not the largest or the best preserved in Ireland, but it is one of the most picturesque and it is very definitely worth a visit.

In all my years visiting Westport, I've accidently found the best place to view Westport and Croagh Patrick at Sunset. I took this photo last Wednesday. The sun shining off the clouds makes an illusion that there is volcanic activity on the mountain.

Located on Hook Head in County Wexford is the famous Hook Head Lighthouse. It is the oldest operating lighthouse in the world. Yes, that's right. The lighthouse has an incredibly unique interior to the standard lighthouses that are dotted around the coast of Ireland. Well worth a visit! Here is a shot I took with a few daisies in the foreground, back in July.
