Some of the most meaningful photographs aren’t created with expensive props or elaborate setups.

They’re created with memories.

A special teddy that belonged to mum when she was little.

A hand-knitted blanket made by granny.

A family heirloom passed down through generations.

A tiny outfit that has a special story behind it.

While professional newborn photographers will usually provide everything needed for the session, sentimental items can add a deeply personal touch to your photographs.

Years from now, these images won’t just remind you of how tiny your baby was.

They’ll remind you of the stories, traditions and people that were part of those first precious days too.

That’s why I always encourage families to bring along anything that feels meaningful to them.

Not because we have to use it.

But because sometimes the simplest items create the most treasured photographs.

And those are often the images that become family favourites 🤍

When a new baby arrives, all eyes naturally focus on them.

But there’s another story unfolding too.

Someone is becoming a grandparent.

And that relationship is every bit as special.

One of my favourite parts of a newborn session is capturing those first moments between grandparents and their newest family member.

The way they look at them.

The pride in their smile.

The tiny fingers wrapped around a grandad’s hand.

The gentle cuddle from granny.

These are moments that can never be recreated.

And while everyone loves the beautiful portraits of baby on their own, photographs that include grandparents often become some of the family’s most treasured images over time.

Because babies grow.

Children grow.

And sadly, time doesn’t stand still.

Photographs become more valuable with every passing year.

That’s why grandparents are always welcome to join family portraits during a newborn session.

Not because we need more photographs.

But because one day, these photographs may mean more than you can possibly imagine.

"What if my baby doesn't sleep?"

A lot of parents wonder about this before their newborn session.

The good news?

Awake newborn portraits are absolutely beautiful.

Those bright eyes.
Tiny expressions.
Little stretches and curious looks.

They often become some of the parents' favourite photographs.

Newborn sessions are completely baby-led, which means we work around your baby's needs rather than expecting them to follow a schedule.

If baby needs a feed, we pause.

If baby needs cuddles, we cuddle.

If baby wants to spend a little time awake taking everything in, that's perfectly okay too.

With patience, experience and a calm approach, most babies naturally drift off to sleep at some point during the session, allowing us to create those beautiful sleepy and curled-up portraits that parents love.

The key is never forcing the process.

Beautiful newborn photography isn't about having a "perfect" baby.

It's about working with your baby exactly as they are on the day.

Whether they're awake, asleep or somewhere in between, there are always beautiful moments waiting to be captured 🤍
