🇮🇪 With the rugby season wrapped up, it was great to get involved in Athlone Photography Club’s People of Athlone project. It’s a fantastic initiative that brings together photography and community, offering the chance to meet and capture the stories of people across Athlone.

It was a real pleasure meeting “Viking George” (see bio below) and gaining access to a unique, behind-the-scenes side of Athlone.

🇫🇷 La saison de rugby étant terminée, je suis ravi de participer au projet "People of Athlone" d'Athlone Photography Club. C’est une formidable initiative qui allie photographie et rencontre, en permettant de découvrir et de capturer les histoires des habitants d’Athlone.

Ce fut un réel plaisir de rencontrer « Viking George » (voir bio ci-dessous) et d’accéder à une partie plus confidentielle d’Athlone.

🇮🇪 A few 📸 from a brilliant afternoon of rugby in Moate between Midland Warriors RUFC and Gorey Rugby Football Club 🏉

A welcome change with a bit of sunshine 🌞 — though the pitch was still nicely muddy to keep things interesting! 😄 The game was played at a serious pace, with both sides bringing huge energy, strong defence and great determination from start to finish.

It was a tight contest all the way, with Gorey (Co. Wexford) just edging it 16–12 in the end — a real battle right to the final whistle.

Massive credit to both teams for the intensity and defensive effort on display. Plenty of big tackles, hard-earned metres and proper fighting spirit throughout 👏

🇫🇷 Quelques 📸 d’un superbe après-midi de rugby à Moate entre les Midland Warriors et Gorey Rugby team (Comté de Wexford) 🏉

Un peu de soleil, ça change ! 🌞 Même si le terrain était encore bien boueux pour pimenter le match 😄. La rencontre s’est jouée à un rythme très élevé, avec beaucoup d’intensité, une grosse défense des deux côtés et un engagement total du début à la fin.

Un match très serré, finalement remporté par Gorey sur le score de 16–12 — une vraie bataille jusqu’au coup de sifflet final.

Un immense bravo aux deux équipes pour leur combativité et leur solidité défensive. De beaux plaquages, beaucoup d’efforts et un excellent esprit rugby 👏

Félicitations à tous les joueurs pour ce très beau match — un vrai plaisir à photographier !

🇮🇪 What a fantastic day at the Moate Parade! 🎉

The rain kindly stayed away and the streets were filled with colour, music and community spirit. From the incredible dancers and lively bands to the local rugby, football and Gaelic football clubs, tractors, vintage cars and so much more — it was a brilliant celebration for everyone who took part and came out to watch.

A huge congratulations and sincere thank you to all the organisers and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the parade happen. Events like this take months of dedication, planning and teamwork, and it truly showed today. Kudos to my improvised models today 📸!

Well done to every participant who helped make it such a memorable day for the community! 👏☘☘☘

🇫🇷 Magnifique journée pour la parade de Moate ! 🎉

La pluie est restée à distance et les rues étaient remplies de couleurs, de musique et d’un formidable esprit communautaire. Des danseurs incroyables aux groupes de musique animés, en passant par les clubs locaux de rugby, de football et de football gaélique, sans oublier les tracteurs et les voitures anciennes — ce fut une superbe journée pour tous les participants et les spectateurs.

Un immense bravo et un grand merci à tous les organisateurs et bénévoles qui ont travaillé en coulisses pour rendre cet événement possible. Des événements comme celui-ci demandent des mois de préparation, de dévouement et de travail d’équipe, et cela s’est vraiment ressenti aujourd’hui. Un grand merci à mes modèles improvisés du jour 📸.

Félicitations à tous les participants qui ont fait de cette parade un moment inoubliable pour la communauté ! 👏 ☘☘☘

🇮🇪 Today we had a nice turnout on the banks of the Shannon for Athlone River Safety Awareness Day. It was great to see the community come together to learn more about staying safe on and around the water. The day featured water safety demonstrations on the river as well as indoor CPR demonstrations, giving people the chance to learn potentially life-saving skills and see first-hand how emergency responses work.

A huge thank you to the organisations and volunteers who made the day possible:

🇮🇪 A few 📸 from another busy afternoon of rugby in Moate between Midland Warriors RUFC and Roscrea RFC 🏉

Played on a very muddy pitch (the kind where the ball feels like a bar of soap! 😅), the match was fast, physical and full of commitment from the first whistle to the last. Plenty of big tackles, great phases of play and serious determination shown by both sides.

There was even a bit of unexpected entertainment when a black dog ran onto the pitch at one stage… for a moment we wondered if the ball was about to be replaced! 🐕😂

Fair play to Roscrea RFC for a strong performance on the day, and huge credit to the Midland Warriors who kept battling right to the end in tough conditions.

Congratulations to all the lads for the effort, teamwork and rugby spirit on display — great to watch and great to photograph! 👏

Sur un terrain très boueux — avec un ballon qui devait parfois ressembler à une savonnette 😅 — le match a été rapide, engagé et intense du début à la fin. De beaux plaquages, beaucoup de rythme et un superbe esprit combatif des deux côtés.

Petit moment insolite pendant le match : un chien noir a traversé le terrain, et pendant quelques secondes on s’est demandé si le ballon allait être remplacé ! 🐕😂

Bravo au Roscrea RFC pour leur belle performance du jour, et un grand respect aux Midland Warriors qui se sont battus jusqu’au bout dans des conditions pas faciles.

A few 📸 from this afternoon’s Senior Women’s match between Midland Warriors RUFC and Birr Rugby Club 🏉

Played on a very muddy pitch in Moate — proper rugby conditions! 😄 — the game was played at a great pace with plenty of determination and commitment on both sides. Sliding tackles, muddy jerseys and a lot of heart out there today.

Fair play to Birr Rugby Club for a strong performance, and huge credit to the Midland Warriors Women who kept battling and showing great spirit right to the final whistle 💪

Massive congratulations to all the players for the effort, teamwork and passion on display — that’s what rugby is all about! 👏

Terrain très boueux à Moate — de vraies conditions de rugby ! 😄 Le match s’est joué sur un rythme soutenu avec beaucoup d’engagement et d’énergie des deux côtés. Glissades, maillots pleins de boue et un bel esprit de combat tout au long de la rencontre.

Bravo au Birr Rugby Club pour leur performance sans faute, et un grand coup de chapeau aux Midland Warriors Women qui n’ont rien lâché et se sont battues jusqu’au coup de sifflet final 💪

🇮🇪 What a game today between Midland Warriors RUFC and Westmanstown Garda Rugby Football Club! 💪🏉

With the Moate pitches waterlogged, the action moved to Mullingar on astroturf — and what a spectacle it turned out to be! We genuinely had four seasons in one afternoon ☀️🌧️🌥️🌈 but that didn’t slow things down one bit.

It was a lightning-fast, hard-fought battle from start to finish, with serious intensity and brilliant passages of play from both sides. Neither team gave an inch, and it showed on the scoreboard — 24–24 at the final whistle! A draw that felt like a win for rugby.

Massive congratulations to all the lads for the effort, determination and sportsmanship 👏 Great fighting spirit from both Midland Warriors and Garda Westmanstown. 🇫🇷 Quel match aujourd’hui entre l'équipe masculine des Midland Warriors et celle de la police irlandaise ! 💪🏉

Les terrains de Moate étant complètement détrempés, la rencontre s’est finalement jouée à Mullingar sur terrain synthétique... et quelle rencontre ! Nous avons vraiment eu quatre saisons en une seule après-midi ☀️🌧️🌥️🌈 mais cela n’a absolument pas ralenti le rythme.

Un match ultra rapide, engagé du début à la fin, avec beaucoup d’intensité et de belles phases de jeu des deux côtés. Personne n’a rien lâché, et le score final reflète parfaitement l’équilibre : 24–24 ! Un match nul qui fait honneur au rugby.

🇮🇪 What a cracking afternoon of senior rugby between Midland Warriors RUFC and Arklow Rugby Football Club! 🏉

Played on a seriously muddy pitch — and with a ball that must have felt like a bar of soap at times 😅 — this was a lightning-fast, full-blooded contest from start to finish. Huge intensity, big tackles, brilliant phases of play and proper fighting spirit shown by both sides.

Final score: 46 – 17 to the Midland Warriors

Massive congratulations to all the lads involved — the commitment out there today was top class. Arklow never stopped battling, and the Warriors made the most of home advantage in Moate with a powerful performance.

Fair play to everyone for putting on such a great game in tough conditions 👏.

Le match a été rapide, engagé et intense du début à la fin, sur un terrain très boueux, avec un ballon qui devait parfois ressembler à une savonnette 😅. De gros plaquages, beaucoup de rythme et un superbe esprit combatif des deux côtés.

Score final : 46 – 17 pour les Midland Warriors.

Félicitations à tous les joueurs pour leur engagement et leur énergie. Arklow s’est battu jusqu’au bout et les Warriors ont su imposer leur jeu à domicile à Moate.

🇮🇪What a battle out in Moate today as the Midland Warriors Senior Women (Midland Warriors RUFC) took on the Garda Westmanstown Senior Women (Westmanstown RFC)! 💛💙🏉

The conditions were far from easy — rain pouring for half the match, a pitch that turned into a mud bath, and a rugby ball as slippery as a bar of soap 😅. But the determination, physicality and team spirit from both sides were unreal.

Huge congratulations to all the ladies who played their hearts out despite the conditions. Plenty of big carries, brave tackles, and never-give-up moments right to the final whistle.

Final score: 10 – 15 to Garda Westmanstown.

Les conditions étaient loin d’être idéales — pluie pendant une bonne partie du match, terrain très boueux, et un ballon qui glissait comme une savonnette 😅. Mais malgré tout, les deux équipes ont montré une détermination incroyable, beaucoup d’engagement et un vrai esprit d’équipe.

Bravo à toutes les joueuses pour leur performance et leur courage malgré les conditions. De belles charges, des plaquages courageux et un vrai combat jusqu’à la fin.

Score final : 10 – 15 pour Garda Westmanstown.

🇫🇷 Même esprit, autre décor ce matin du côté de Binic.
Aujourd'hui, 25 à 30 courageux ont osé le bain d’hiver — sans doute trop froid pour les autres 😉.
Au programme : 3–4 °C dans l’air, grand soleil, et après quelques minutes d’échauffement, un petit plongeon dans une eau à 7/8 °C 🥶.
Derrière l’appareil, c’était (encore une fois) plus facile. Bravo aux nageurs et merci à Binic Étables-sur-Mer Nageurs Sauveteurs (Kreiz Breizh Sauvetage Secourisme) pour la sécurité et l’organisation.

🇮🇪 Same spirit, different setting this morning near Binic.
This time, only 25–30 brave souls took the plunge — probably too cold for the rest 😉.
Here was the plan: 3–4°C in the air, bright sunshine, and after a few minutes of warm-up, a quick dive in the water (7/8°C) 🥶.
Much easier to watch from behind the camera, once again. Respect to the swimmers, and thanks to Binic Étables-sur-Mer Lifeguards (Kreiz Breizh Sauvetage Secourisme) for keeping everyone safe.

🇫🇷 À Saint-Quay-Portrieux ce matin, certains ont choisi le courage (ou une légère folie 😄). Bain de Noël dans une eau à 7–8 °C : il faut être breton… ou très motivé !
Derrière l’objectif, c’était nettement plus confortable 😉
Bravo aux participants et à la Fédération Nationale des Maîtres-Nageurs Sauveteurs – 22 pour la surveillance.

📍 Saint-Quay-Portrieux – Côtes-d’Armor

🇮🇪 Some people chose bravery (or madness 😄) this morning in Saint-Quay-Portrieux.
The Christmas swim took place in 7–8°C water — definitely not for the faint-hearted!
Much easier to admire it from behind the camera 😉
Huge respect to the swimmers and to the National Lifeguard Federation (22) for keeping everyone safe.
