Portora Lock was built in the 1950s - replacing an older 1880’s lock - and built as part of the Erne Drainage and Navigation Scheme.

It helps manage water levels across Lough Erne and let boats pass between the upper and lower loughs.

It is located right next to the historic ruins of Portora Castle, which was built in 1613, making it a scenic and historically rich passage for cruisers and boaters.

As competitors lined up their putts at Ballycastle during its round of hosting The Causeway Coast Golf Tournament which runs from 1-5 June taking in Royal Portrush, Ballycastle, Castlerock and Ballyliffin, they were framed by one of Northern Ireland’s most breathtaking panoramas - just look at that view!

Boho (pronounced Bo) Church of Ireland Church, Co Fermanagh

This little church, built in 1777, in the townland of Farnaconnell, is surrounded by ancient stone walls and is set In a beautiful location on high ground looking over Lough Ross.

The church is notable for the stone door surround at the west entrance. It’s thought to be late medieval in origin and relocated to this building from the pre-Reformation church which once stood on the site of the Sacred Heart Church (which we previously recently posted).

Recognising its architectural qualities and its scenic placement overlooking Lough Ross, the Historic Environment Division officially designated the building as a listed historic structure as it also did with the neighbouring Sacred Heart Church.

This is Carrick-A-Rede Robe Bridge as it used to be way back in the 1950/60’s. It was originally built by local salmon fishermen in 1755 - and it had even fewer ropes way back then! It stood 100 ft (30 metres) above the Atlantic and was used to access the tiny offshore island of Carrick-a-Rede to check, tend and haul in fishing nets during the annual salmon migration.

Anyone who crossed it when it looked like this must have had a death wish - and I was one of them!! Absolutely barking mad!! 🙈
