I asked Nikola if she’d do a short piece to camera so we could chart her journey over the last twelve months on the road to the RDS. I’ve been lucky — throughout the year she’s asked me to shoot reels and photos at different points, so I’ve had these beautiful touch‑points to weave into her story.

It’s been a brilliant year for her and her mare Rosie, and of course for Aidan — ever‑present, ever‑steady, always there in support. They turned in a fantastic result at the RDS Dublin Horse Show this year. So thank you, Nikola, for having me along and for being so generous with your time.

When I finished editing the video and looked back at it, I realised the journey I’d charted was as much mine as it was Nikola’s. I can see how far my own work has come in twelve months. Sometimes you need to stop and take stock, have a little look at what you’ve done. It can be hard — we’re all creators now, and the space can feel crowded.

Yesterday I made a woman cry, and I’m delighted. She watched her “Follow Me” reel from the RDS Horse Show and bawled all over again with tears of joy. Not all your work will move people, but that’s the goal.

So to everyone who booked in this year — thank you. To those I couldn’t accommodate — I’m sorry. Here’s to the next twelve months and whatever they bring. I hope to see you in a field, across a ditch, in an arena or a yard. Come say hello.equine www.mcnicholasmedia.ie

“My groom for the day was my daughter, Annabelle O’Shaughnessy, although our roles will be reversed on Sunday when Annabelle takes to the ring herself with Menlo Fawn Lady in Class 80, the Show Hunter Pony class, and I get to be the proud mum and groom at ringside.”✨

“Showing is very much a team effort for us. Behind those few minutes in the ring are the early mornings, a lot of brushing and polishing, tack cleaning, last minute checks and, of course, trying to keep Hero looking immaculate right up until he walks into the ring.”⭐️

“We even managed a little mother and daughter “matchy matchy” for the occasion. Our matching showing tweed jackets complemented Hero’s colouring beautifully, with Annabelle’s doubling up perfectly as smart grooms wear. After all, if Hero was going to be turned out for Dublin, his team had better make an effort too!”🧡
