In partnership with Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society, we invited local historian Alannah O'Sullivan to deliver a talk about the legacy of St Joseph's Industrial School & The Nazareth Tralee as part of Heritage Week 2023. Her excellent talk led to a powerful sharing of lived experiences by survivors of these institutions.
prior to the event, Alannah spoke on Radio Kerry: https://www.radiokerry.ie/podcasts/talkabout/the-legacy-of-st-josephs-industrial-school-and-nazareth-august-16th-2023-343490
The below interview on Radio Kerry took place three weeks after the event and it shows that the discussion has been opened and also how important it is that suvivors are part of the decision as to what should happen next: https://www.radiokerry.ie/news/kerry-councillor-calls-for-permanent-memorial-for-survivors-of-industrial-schools-and-magdalene-laundries-345933

The black and white photograph held by Alannah was taken by Joan and Padraig Kenelly in April 1955 and shows boys from St Joseph's Industrial School Tralee. The photograph featured in a major exhibition at Kerry County Museum: "Kerry Lives: 1950-73. A portrait of the county from the Kennelly Archive".
