The sport of swimming in Wexford – both as a leisure activity and at a high-performance level – is going from strength to strength, with approximately 800 children taking part in lessons each week at the pool in Ferrybank.

Mateusz Slazyk, the manager of Wexford Swimming Pool, is originally from Poland, but has been living in Ireland for many years, having graduated from the University of the Shannon a decade and a half ago. He has been the manager of Wexford’s premier public pool and gym facility for nearly five years and says that in that time, teaching swimming to kids has become the core of everything they do.

“We’ve also made strong progress in terms of memberships, and overall, we feel the facility is in a very good place. The two things we’ve really focused on are cleanliness and customer service,” he said.
