Just completed two back-to-back photography tours at Blackbuck National Park, totalling 12 safaris.
What an amazing time we had making images of Indian Grey Wolves, Striped Hyenas, Jungle Cats, and Blackbucks! It is invariably the best park to see these species.
We had ample opportunities to photograph the Indian Grey Wolves, aptly referred to as Kings of the Grasslands. They ruled and literally dominated gigabytes worth of space on our memory cards, as well as moments to cherish for a lifetime! We captured them on kill, on a chase for a hunt, some phenomenal behavioral moments, rim-lit shots, portraits, images highlighting conservation issues and so on.
Striped Hyenas were amazing too, their adorable pups at times enjoyed slumber outside their dens, or on some days, they were out and about exploring the areas around. There was a moment where a Wolf and Hyena came face to face, and it was the Hyena that chased the Wolf away.
Jungle Cat remained elusive during the first tour, as we only got some glimpses. This changed from the very first drive of the second tour where we spotted three individuals, and all three posed! Quite an opportunity considering this shyness of the feline species.
Blackbucks were literally everywhere and allowed us to unleash our creativity in a variety of situations.
Sharing one of my personal favorite images from the tour, a captivating portrait of an Indian Grey Wolf. This is a very special image, not only because it is unique but also because it somehow captures the mysticism associated with Wolves. Long live the Kings of the grasslands, may their packs flourish.
