The Jacobin cuckoo aka Pied cuckoo (Clamator jacobinus), a characteristic black and white-colored cuckoo with a distinctive crest, is considered to be a harbinger of the monsoon rains due to the timing of its arrival. It is a summer breeder in India and the individuals become very vocal during the breeding season; they call from prominent perches and chase each other with slow wing-beats and pigeon-like clapping flight. Courtship feeding has been documented in this species. Luck was by my side one fine morning in the month of June 2021 and while I was chasing the playful couple, I witnessed and documented this rare moment of courtship feeding without disturbing the cupid-struck couple.

The common house gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) aka house lizard, is nocturnal and can be seen climbing walls and curtains of houses in search of insects. This individual had a damaged hind limb (with only one digit) and was photographed using a mobile phone while only the silhouette of it was visible as it was on the other side of the curtain.

Greater coucal or crow pheasant (Centropus sinensis), has a characteristic long tail and coppery brown wings but are weak fliers, and are often seen walking on the ground as they forage. This individual had just flown a short distance from thick Typha vegetation into open and was found stretching one fine morning in the month of June 2021. The stretching pose could well be the next advertiser for Yoga.

Male of the Black francolin (Francolinus francolinus) is often seen standing on a rock/poles/wood logs seeking attention of its mate with its extraordinary creaking call that may be heard all day long during its breeding season. This close-up shot was taken one fine morning in the month of June 2021 while I was exploring the dense Typha vegetation on the banks of River Chinab. The showstopper of the Chinab banks was kind enough to pose with its beautiful feathers stretched.
