എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ രായമംഗലംദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന അതിപുരാതനവും ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധവുമായ ഒരു പുണ്യസങ്കേതമാണ് കൂട്ടുമഠം ശ്രീ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. മാറാരോഗങ്ങൾ അകറ്റാനും ശത്രുദോഷങ്ങൾ മാറി ഐശ്വര്യം വരാനും ഭക്തർ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന മധ്യകേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ മുരുകൻ കോവിലുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ കിടങ്ങൂരിൽ നിന്നും തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഭഗവാനെ ഉപാസിച്ചിരുന്ന 14 പ്രമുഖ ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങളുടെ ചരിത്രവുമായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അവർ പിന്നീട് ഇവിടെയെത്തുകയും സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ സ്വാമിക്കായി ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുകയുമാണുണ്ടായത്. ബ്രാഹ്മണർ കൂട്ടമായി (കൂട്ടമായി മഠങ്ങളിൽ) താമസിച്ച് ഭഗവാനെ ഭജിച്ചതിനാലാണ് ഈ ദേശത്തിന് 'കൂട്ടുമഠം' എന്ന പേര് ലഭിച്ചതെന്നാണ് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.
