The biggest surprise I witnessed in Cairo was a long history of Christianity dated to the birth of Jesus Christ. The Roman fortress of Babylon in Cairo has around 4 churches and a Synagogue constructed inside its premises.
The hanging church constructed during the period 3rd - 5th CE is dedicated to Virgin Mary, the church of St.Sergius & Bacchus where it is believed that the holy family took shelter to protect baby Jesus from King Herod, St. Barbara Church which is dedicated to the martyr St. Barbara & finally the St. George’s church named after angel Gabriel.
Such a fascinating piece of history, isn’t it ?
