“In the first light of morning, even a fleeting takeoff can become a study in grace.”

Bathed in soft golden morning light, this Common Hawk Cuckoo lifts off with quiet elegance, its wings opening into the day as if answering the call of dawn. The warm side light adds depth and texture to the bird, giving the frame a sense of life, energy, and freshness that only early morning can offer.

What makes the image work is the directional space given to the bird. The subject has been placed thoughtfully within the frame so that it has room to move into, which strengthens the feeling of takeoff and forward motion. This pacing of the subject is important in flight photography because it avoids a cramped composition and allows the viewer to feel the momentum, direction, and natural flow of the bird as it rises into the light.

I always felt I was among the few exploring vertical panoramic photography as an artistic expression. It’s wonderful to see fellow photographers embracing the idea, experimenting with the format, and bringing their interpretations to an exhibition.

A big thank you to YPS Bengaluru for encouraging photographers to look beyond conventional formats and, more importantly, for promoting photography as an art form …where creativity, perspective and individual expression matter as much as the image itself.

It’s inspiring to see an idea evolve into a shared artistic language. Congratulations to all the participating artists!

“Creation begins not with one, but with the harmony of two becoming one.”

Among the many forms of Shiva, Ardhanarishvara is perhaps one of the most profound — Shiva and Parvati sharing a single body, one half masculine and the other feminine. The form represents Purusha and Prakriti, consciousness and energy, inseparable forces without which creation cannot exist.

Photographed at the great Srikanteshwara or Nanjundeshwara Temple at Nanjangud on iPhone , a Shaiva centre whose history stretches back nearly a millennium, this sculpted form feels especially powerful. The temple itself carries layers of Ganga, Chola, Hoysala, Vijayanagara and Wodeyar patronage, making such sculptures not merely objects of worship, but enduring expressions of Indian philosophy carved into stone. ✨❤️

Watching Arjun Haarith photograph flamingos at Pulicat is a reminder of what it truly takes to be a photographer , waking before dawn, travelling to distant places, carrying heavy gear, understanding light and behaviour, waiting patiently, sometimes returning without a single frame, and still coming back with the same passion the next day. Behind every beautiful photograph are countless unseen hours of observation, preparation, perseverance and, above all, love for the moment. Happy World Photography Day to everyone who continues to chase the light and tell stories through a lens.

“Success lasts only a fraction of a second. Instinct knows exactly when to seize it.”

At Bharatpur, a Darter tosses its freshly caught fish into the air, aligning it perfectly before swallowing it. It is one of those fleeting moments in bird photography where instinct, timing, and reaction speed matter as much as the equipment.

The entire sequence unfolds in an instant. The moment the fish leaves the beak, there is almost no time to think. You have to anticipate the behaviour, stay locked on the bird, and react immediately. Capturing the fish suspended in mid air makes that brief act of feeding feel almost theatrical.

“When the world turns soft and distant, the smallest life stands out with quiet brilliance.”

A Lime Blue butterfly rests gently in the frame, photographed with the Laowa 100 MM Macro at F2.8, where the shallow depth of field transforms the background into a smooth blur of colour and light. This approach is especially important in macro photography, because it isolates the delicate subject from its surroundings and creates a dreamy, intimate effect that draws the eye straight to the butterfly.

At F2.8, only a very narrow plane remains in focus, making precision critical. When used well, shallow depth of field not only highlights the fine details of the butterfly, but also turns ordinary foliage into beautiful bokeh, giving the image a refined and artistic mood.
