INDIAN EAGLE OWL.
@ BANGLORE- OCT - 2016.

DESCRIPTION:

The Indian eagle-owl, also called the rock eagle-owl. They are found in hilly and rocky scrub forests, and are usually seen in pairs. They have a deep resonant booming call that may be heard at dawn and dusk. They are typically large owls, and have "tufts" on their heads. They perch on rocks and are highly camouflaged and very difficult to spot. When scared they fly short distance and perch nearby. They stare at intruder in a clownish manner. They sit for a long time on the same perch.

Length: 16-17 cm and Weight: 30-53 gram
Pecks the tree - to make a hole and make a stay, also to reach the invertebrates concealed between trunk and bark.
They stay alone or with a pair or small number( may be 4). If large parties are found they will be found in a tree with fruits.
Vocal is like tuk tuk tuk , just like copper smith hitting a copper sheet.
The tuk tuk can be like 108 to 121 times per min , some times goes to 204 notes.
Breeding - singing, bobbing the head,flicking the tail. Both the counter parts keep the egg in secure.Lay around 3 to 4 eggs.
