This is not a normal chair… 👑
This is the chair associated with Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor of India. Although he had very little real political power by 1857, he became the symbolic leader of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (also known in India as the First War of Independence) after rebel soldiers proclaimed him Emperor of Hindustan.
After the uprising was suppressed, the British captured him, tried him at the Red Fort in Delhi, and exiled him to Rangoon (present-day Yangon, Myanmar), where he died in 1862. His exile marked the end of the Mughal Empire, which had ruled large parts of the Indian subcontinent for more than three centuries.
Today, this historic chair is preserved at the Humayun’s Tomb Site Museum, New Delhi, offering visitors a rare connection to one of the most significant chapters in India’s history.
