In the quiet hills of Odisha, a forgotten chapter of Indian railway history was written long before many people knew its name. đźš‚
Paralakhemundi, a princely state in present-day Odisha, became home to India’s first private railway line under the vision of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati. At a time when railways were expanding across British India, this small kingdom dared to dream big — connecting remote regions, boosting trade, and bringing people closer together.
The narrow-gauge railway, known as the Paralakhemundi Light Railway, began operations in the early 1900s and stood as a symbol of local leadership and innovation. While cities like Mumbai and Kolkata are often remembered in railway history, Paralakhemundi quietly created its own legacy.
This historic train was more than transport — it carried hopes, culture, and progress through the tribal heartlands of Odisha.

A Morning in Gajapati” 🌄

As the sun slowly rises behind the green hills of Gajapati, golden light spreads across the peaceful land. The giant Buddha statue stands calm and silent, watching over the villages below, as if protecting every life that wakes up here.

Farmers begin their day in the lush fields, their footsteps blending with the sound of flowing water from the nearby waterfall. The cool breeze carries the freshness of nature, making every breath feel pure and alive.

Near the grand temple gates, people gather with hope and faith, starting their day with prayers. The beauty of tradition and nature lives together here — simple homes, smiling faces, and a peaceful rhythm of life.

Gajapati is not just a place…
It’s a feeling of calm, culture, and connection with nature. 🌿
