I was thrilled to spot the elusive Black Francolin suddenly appearing on a cemented block near the water canal. The sunlight was directly falling on it, illuminating the beautiful patterns. It seemed ready to cross but, upon noticing us, swiftly took off into the bushes. This was the only shot I could capture, but I’m grateful to check another bird off my wishlist.

Master hoverer! Unlike most kingfishers, the pied kingfisher is an expert at hovering mid-air before diving into the water to catch fish. This skill helps it hunt in deeper waters where perching isn’t an option.

Lucky charm, the Red-naped Ibis!

In India, it is often seen near temples and agricultural fields and is sometimes considered a symbol of good fortune. Unlike most ibises, which are found near wetlands, the Red-naped Ibis is often seen in dry fields, grasslands, and even urban areas.

Today is World Wildlife Day, and I’m excited to share this image of the incredible bar-headed goose! These birds are truly remarkable—read on to discover what makes them so special:

- Bar-headed goose have been recorded flying at high altitudes of over 7,000 meters (23,000 feet).

- They can survive in extreme low-oxygen conditions. Unlike most birds that take detours, bar-headed geese fly straight over the Himalayas!

- Their lungs and heart are adapted to extract more oxygen from thin air and they often migrate at night, enduring temperatures as low as -50°C.

- They travel from their breeding grounds in Tibet, Mongolia, and China to wintering sites in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. They fly over deserts, mountains, and rivers in a journey that covers 4,000–5,000 km

A truly rare and unforgettable moment—capturing both the male and female Dusky Eagle-Owl in a single frame. As we arrived at the location, their calls echoed through the forest. Suddenly, one silently soared overhead, almost invisible in the dusk, before settling on an open branch. Moments later, its partner joined, perching right beside it. Witnessing and photographing this incredible pair together was beyond anything I had imagined. What a remarkable day in the wild!

Exact location withheld for the safety of the birds.

A huge thank you to my guide and friend, Aditya, for helping me spot these incredibly well-camouflaged Indian eagle owls. There were three individuals, perfectly blending into the rocky terrain and dense foliage. Truly thrilled to have finally encountered them in their natural habitat!

The Dusky Eagle-owl, an early morning visit to this incredible national park (location withheld for bird safety) finally led me to this elusive beauty—a long-awaited addition to my photography list since my first sighting at Keoladeo National Park in 2019. Huge thanks to Aditya ( ), whose exceptional tracking skills and deep knowledge of the area and its avian inhabitants made this moment possible.

The Dusky Eagle-owl is a large, grayish-brown owl native to parts of Asia, including India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. These owls are often active during daylight hours, especially in overcast conditions.

In the early morning, they can be observed basking in the sun, a behavior that helps regulate their body temperature and aids in feather maintenance. Their distinctive yellow eyes and prominent ear tufts make them easily recognizable.
