Meet Gerty. Her story will warm your hearts and hopefully be an inspiration for you.
The first time we saw her, she was all skin and bones, with mange on her skin and emitting an odor. We paused to observe her, she took notice and came running to us. She looked like she had been abandoned - maybe because of her skin issues. We felt so because she was very friendly, had a collar on and seemed out of place among the other indies on the street.
We don't know how long she was on the street. Spotted her wandering all over the place and foraging for food in garbage. We started feeding her and treating her for her skin condition. This was on the street itself as we didn't have a quarantined place to keep her. Why not a shelter or foster ? We believe its best to put in our own efforts and come up with solutions where feasible, since shelters and fosters already take care of so many dogs and are doing the best they can to accomodate. We discovered she had a safe place to return to, in an empty plot and felt best not to disrupt her.
She would come running to us everytime she spotted us on the road, on our morning walks or while driving to work - and sometimes she would sneak up to us out of nowhere. We monitored her daily and saw the progress.
She has an amazing spirit and all she needed was love and care along with some medical intervention. And the results are for you to see.
This transformation took just one month!!
Shout out to Ms Felicity who took in Gerty ( as named by her). She was feeding her and caring for her as well in parallel which we came to know later and co-ordinated).
Looks like Gerty might have found herself a permanent family. Fingers crossed.
On this note, Wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New year :)
