Kathakali lessons at Kerala Kalamandalam.

Students learning kathakali undergo rigorous training. They are put through an exacting schedule of separate exercises for the eyes, eyebrows, eyelids, the iris, cheeks, nose, jaws, lower lip, tongue, chin and the mouth. They also have to undergo training in dance steps, body movements, and the mudras or the art of conveying ideas and meanings through hand gestures.

Kalamandalam is an immortal name in the cultural map of the world. Formed back in 1930, Kalamandalam is strictly a residential center of learning.
