The region of Daspalla is culturally revered as Mahavir Kshetra. According to local history, the ruler King Trilochan Bhanj (1753–1775) established the main Mahavir temple in the town after having a divine dream instructing him to retrieve the deity's statue from this very cave, then situated on the Baradayini hil.
