The Pandit Chatur Lal Centenary Festival on April 16, 2026, at Safdarjung Tomb, Delhi, featured a headline performance by Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota and percussionist Sivamani.
This collaboration showcased a jugalbandi (duet) blending traditional bhajan gayaki with dynamic, modern percussion.

Centenary celebrations of Pandit Chatur Lal.

With the enduring splendor of the Safdarjung Tomb as a backdrop, what a wonderful evening of pure soul satisfying music was creating by,
Brahmaand, lead by Pranshu Chatur Lal.
Him taking the Chatur Lal legacy forward in the most apt way.

Brahmaand featuring, Pranshu Chatur Lal (Tabla and Drums), Khan (Sitar), Shuheb Hasan (Vocal), Atul Shankar (Flute), and Monis Ali (Keyboards).

The Pandit Chatur Lal Festival marked the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary tabla maestro with a commemorative concert at Safdarjung's Tomb.

The beautifully curated festival was presented by Pandit Chaturlal Memorial Society in collaboration with Delhi Tourism.

The event brought together a diverse lineup of artists in an open-air heritage setting, highlighting both classical and contemporary interpretations of Indian music.

The program featured Bhajan exponent Anup Jalota and Shivamani alongside Pranshu Chatur Lal and his ensemble Brahmaand.

The Department of Posts, Government of India, released a commemorative stamp to honour the tabla exponent Pandit Chatur Lal, the first Indian percussionist to introduce tabla to the West in the 1950s.

The stamp was unveiled during the grand finale of Pandit Chatur Lal’s centenary celebrations.

Shakha Pola Ritual

Shakha pola are traditional Bengali bangles, primarily worn by married women, symbolizing marital status and auspiciousness. The Shakha, a white conch shell bangle, and the Pola, a red coral bangle, are worn together, representing purity, fertility, and the strength of marital bonds. They are an integral part of Bengali wedding rituals and are believed to bring prosperity and protect the wearer.
As customs have it, one has to wear a pair of each in both the hands.
Shakha pola forms an integral part of the wedding trousseau. lt is gifted by the mother of the bride.
Shakha is brittle, and it signifies the care that the bride has to take to build the new relationship coupled with the warmth of the red colour of the coral.

We had a wonderful time shooting with Ms. T. Reddi Lakshmi. She is among the established and reputable performers in the present generation of Kuchipudi artists in India. For her Kuchipudi is, far from being just an art form that she performs with unparalleled passion, a way of life, a devotion. This unwavering commitment towards the performing art was formed deep roots on moving to Delhi and training with eminent Kuchipudi Gurus, Padmasri Jayarama Rao & Vanashree Rao, for over 20 years now.

Her performances, adjudged by some of the most unforgiving critics of the Indian classical dances, have received remarkable acclaim for reflecting her sincerity and dedication towards the classical art form. Critics have time and again anointed her the ‘complete dancer’ carrying the quintessential quicksilver movements typical to the Kuchipudi style
