Why correct post processing is required:
-------------------------------------------
I am reposting old photo of star trail shot during my last vacation. I had processed the image but did not change the white balance (temperature and tint) during post processing. When I showed this photograph to some of my photographer friends the first observation made by them was “why you have not corrected white balance/saturation of the sky which is looking more of purple side instead of black or bluish”.
Then I realized my mistake and reprocessed the image again.
See the after and before image in comment.
A lot of people believe that post processing is cheating and using any software like Photoshopor Lightroom to manipulate the original image captured by the camera is fake.
However, often enough its due to ignorance because you may not know this but even in the film era there was post processing the negative and creating a print.
Here are some of top reasons why Post Processing is absolutely necessary:
• Utilise Camera’s Potential – The camera’s today capture so much information that they record in a single photograph; if you don’t use it you are letting it go to waste.
• Create the perfect image – Create the image envisioned by you as the photographer, invoke the mood and emotion that you desire in the final image not just what your camera captured.
• Ease of Editing – In this era of internet, learning post processing is no longer a hard thing. There are so many learning videos available on youtube that will let you learn the basic of post processing in photoshop and lightroom with ease and simplicity.
• So many adjustments – These post processing software provide us so many tools that let us adjust various components of an image like Exposure, Highlights, Shadows, Saturation, Sharpness, Noise reduction and many more.
• Fix Mistakes – The most important of them all, it allows us to fix mistakes that you can make when pressing the shutter button. Well some mistakes can be fixed but not all.
• Remove Distractions – Remove distracting elements that may be impossible to frame out during shoot.
