Stargazing at 14,000 Feet
Sharing some night sky photographs I captured last month during the Annual Star Party at Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, Hanle, Ladakh. Set at an altitude of 14,000 feet, the star party brought together Amateur Astronomers, Astrophotographers, and Astronomy Enthusiasts who camped under the stars for four unforgettable nights, witnessing and capturing the pristine beauty of the cosmos. The Hanle Dark Sky Reserve is dedicated to protecting the night sky from light pollution, preserving these dark skies for scientific research, and empowering local communities through astrotourism. This initiative celebrates the magic of the night sky while safeguarding it for future generations.
These photos were taken at the 2024 Star Party at Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, a collaborative effort by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, the UT Ladakh administration, LAHDC Leh, and local communities, all working together to preserve Hanle’s exceptional night skies.
