The Plum Headed Parakeet

These vibrant birds are a spectacle of nature, featuring a stunning deep-purple head that looks like it was dipped in a sunset. Native to the Indian subcontinent, they are as social and energetic as they are beautiful.

Nature’s “fire and earth” palette in one frame. ❤️💛
Spotting a pair of Scarlet Finches (Carpodacus sipahi) is a rare masterclass in sexual dimorphism. While the male earns his name with that unmistakable “soldier red” plumage, the female is equally stunning in her subtle olive-gold tones.
These high-altitude beauties are currently active in the temperate forests of the Himalayas. Seeing them together is a reminder that sometimes the best things in nature come in pairs.

The Common Green Magppie

An extremely beautiful bird. For 5 years I waited to capture this one. I got it for the first time last year and now I have got a shot every time I go birding in the Himalayas.

Simple Lesson- Things come to you when you least expect them. That’s why I love what I do.

Meet the Sleek Cousin: The Cinereous Tit

Move over, Great Tit! This Asian beauty swaps the yellow belly for a sophisticated monochrome palette. Often called the “Ashy Tit,” these little acrobats are the definition of “small but mighty.”

Why we’re obsessed:

The Look: That iconic glossy black hood paired with crisp white cheeks and a soft grey “tuxedo.” 🐧

The Brains: Member of the Paridae family, they are incredibly smart—famous for social learning and problem-solving.

The Song: Their rhythmic ti-pui, ti-pui whistle is the soundtrack to many Asian gardens and woodlands. 🎶

Whether they’re hanging upside down to snag an insect or visiting a backyard feeder, these birds bring a touch of elegance to every branch they land on.

Hawk or Owl? 🤔🦅🦉

Meet the Brown Hawk-Owl! It lacks the classic flat “owl face” and rocks a long, hawk-like tail—but those piercing yellow eyes give it away every time. 👀✨

Quick facts about this nighttime ninja:

🌳 Habitat: Hangs out in the thick forests and wooded areas of South Asia.
🐸 Diet: Swoops down on large insects, frogs, and small rodents.
🎶 Call: Listen for a soft, musical “whoo-wup” at dusk.

🌿 Meet the Vibrant Blue-Throated Barbet! 🐦

Imagine being serenaded by a rhythmic kutroo-kutroo-kutroo echoing through the canopy in South or Southeast Asia. That's what it's like to encounter the stunning Blue-throated Barbet!

Here's what makes this bird truly amazing:

🌈 Living Rainbows: Bright turquoise-blue throat and cheeks, striking red splashes on their crown, and a brilliant green body for camouflage.

🍓 Fruity Diet: These canopy dwellers love wild figs and berries, helping disperse seeds throughout the forest (and snacking on insects too)!

🌳 Tree Carvers: Like woodpeckers, they excavate their own nest holes in dead tree trunks or branches using their strong beaks.

🌆 Urban Adapters: Native to tropical foothills and evergreen forests, they're increasingly spotted in city gardens, parks, and orchards.

Next time you're near a fruiting tree, keep your eyes peeled and ears open! Have you spotted one of these colorful birds? Share your experiences in the comments! 👇

The loudest “mic-drop” in the forest comes from a bird the size of an egg. 🎤

Meet the Scaly-breasted Cupwing. If you’ve ever trekked through the damp, mossy undergrowth of the Himalayas and heard a piercing whistle but saw absolutely nothing—this was your culprit.

These “tail-less” wonders are the ultimate hide-and-seek champions. It took me 5 hours of sitting in the cold just to get these three frames. They don’t just sit on branches; they own the shadows. I was lucky to get these frames.

Why they are fascinating:

They are almost entirely tail-less, giving them that perfect, round silhouette.

Those “scales” are actually intricate feather patterns that make them invisible against wet bark and moss.

For a bird this small, their song can literally echo across a valley.

Save this for your next birding trip to Mandal so you know what to look for in the dark corners of the trail! 📍
