Day3: Chitkul - Nako

This is the day we first experienced the feel of spiti. The terrain changed from lush green mountains to deserted mountains. There were roads and there were no roads. There were breath taking roads which literally take your breath away if you make a mistake. The ascent was steep with chill winds blowing on to you pushing away from the ridge.

We left chitkul around 8AM after having maggi and bread omlette which would our breakfast lunch and dinner for the remaining 4 days. Road from Chitkul to karcham was non existent and we were doing good speeds in that bad roads. But later we realised that we lost our only tent which was usable and my left glove. I rode back 15 kms in search of my single glove only to return back empty handed. Then there is this place called reckongpeo which has the last petrol pump from shimla. After this you will have to go to kaza for the next pump. So we all filled up our tanks and headed towards Kaza. To continue the breakdowns Thunderbird's muffler hit a stone and it fell off. We had to wait for it to cool down and tie it to the luggage rack. We could only make it to Nako that day. Our plans to camp got ruined as we lost our tent. But this is all a part of our trip. We met a lot of fellow riders in Nako and shared our adventures. Had We finally stayed in a good homestay where we could finally bath.
