Some businesses begin with money.
Some begin with ambition.
Ours began with friendship, trust, and a camera unloaded from a car in 1952.
After Partition, my grandfather Hemandas Fathumal Ramchandani rebuilt life through a small framing shop in Poona. Then one day, a kind-hearted customer named Mr. Arole walked in with cameras, darkroom equipment, photography books, chemicals, and a dream bigger than all of us.
Within seven days, “The Art Gallery” photo studio was born.
This is the emotional story of how our family’s photography legacy truly began — through courage, craftsmanship, darkroom magic, and one man’s belief in another.
A nostalgic journey into vintage Indian photography, analog studios, darkroom culture, and the roots of a family archive that still lives on today.
