Another worrisome factor that has also come in sight that there is a new type of journalism that has taken birth in my city which is “provocative journalism”. Well, in text books there is no such mention but the newbies seem to have innovated it. The one holding the microphone seems to address the audience as if it’s individual ranting or personal vendetta.

Religion, caste, creed, political influence, activism etc. is an individual’s choice which can’t be imposed on others and when a so called journalist comes the screen should not portray either of the above mentioned traits.

And as I said earlier, don’t keep thinking that anything and everything is possible under the word in capital letters, PRESS.

Wanted to write this a long back but couldn’t force myself more to keep quiet. Because I’m not just an onlooker or a passerby.

Well, it begins with the time I took the Journalism book in hand like an odd one out while the masses took on medical and engeenering back in the respected era of the mid 90’s. Never had any page or chapter referred to have spoken about “activism” and “journalism” on the same page, except the comparison versions.

Unfortunately the word journalism is converted more into activism largely, well that’s pan India but I’m much concerned about the city I come from which is Jammu. I’ve experienced and seen the so called custodian of journalism operating especially from the Facebook/Meta Satellite Network which god knows how gives a social media account user authorisation to use the word PRESS and roam around with microphones on streets sometimes bashing up people/police/political leaders/common man etc left, right and center as if some have the authority to do whatever without any questions said and asked under that umbrella of the word PRESS.

Lack of education surely does affect and effect both ways, especially, when someone’s job profile is into public dealing.

I certainly wish that education prevails and people don’t remain to be stooges of businessmen and subsequently don’t keep thinking that anything and everything is possible under the word in capital letters, PRESS.
